Fermilab is known for cutting-edge experiments, particle physics research—and an adorable herd of bison.

Welcome to Fermilab's new bison cam! Fermilab has housed a herd of bison since 1969 when Robert Wilson, Fermilab's first director, established the bison as a symbol of the history of the Midwestern prairie and the laboratory's pioneering research at the frontiers of particle physics.

Every year, new calves are born signaling the start of spring. To learn more about Fermilab's bison herd, please visit the section on wildlife at Fermilab on our website.

Fermilab's Batavia site is open to the public with proper identification. View more details on hours, activities and site access requirements.
