In October 2012, the Board of Directors of the Fermi Research Alliance, LLC appointed a committee to conduct an international search for the next director of Fermilab. Current Director Pier Oddone announced on August 2, 2012 that he will retire on July 1, 2013 after eight years at the helm of America’s premier particle physics laboratory.
The Fermilab Director Search Committee, led by former Lockheed Martin chairman and CEO Norman Augustine, conducted a broad international search that sought input from Fermilab employees and the particle physics community. On June 20, 2013, Fermi Research Alliance announced that Nigel Lockyer, director of Canadašs TRIUMF laboratory for particle and nuclear physics and a professor of physics and astronomy at the University of British Columbia, was selected to become Fermilab's director.
Nigel Lockyer, director of Canada's TRIUMF laboratory for particle and nuclear physics, has been selected as the sixth director of Fermilab, succeeding Pier Oddone. Lockyer, who has a long history with Fermilab and the CDF experiment, will begin his tenure in September.
