Talk: Flying Curiosity to Mars: Delivering NASA's Rover - today
On the night of Aug. 5, the Curiosity rover touched down safely on the surface of Mars. NASA's Curiosity had begun rolling across the floor of Gale Crater and investigating its surroundings with a variety of instruments. In a special seminar on Friday, Oct. 12 at 5 p.m. in Curia II, Steve Collins will discuss "Flying Curiosity to Mars: Delivering NASA's Rover." For many years Collins, an altitude control engineer at Jet Propulsion Laboratory, has participated in the operation of interplanetary spacecraft. Most recently his team shepherded Curiosity to its destination.

Giorgio Bellettini presents exhibit dedicated Fermi's life - Oct. 15
Fermilab's Giorgio Bellettini will present an exhibit dedicated to the life of Enrico Fermi on Monday, Oct. 15 at 6 p.m. at the Italian Cultural Institute of Chicago. Through images taken from the photographic albums of Laura Fermi and Enrico Persico, many of which are unpublished, the Institute presents an exhibition of panels highlighting Fermi's biography. Guest caller at English country and Barn dance special event Sunday, October 14
Colin Hume, a noted dance caller and choreographer on tour from England, will call a special day of dance Sunday, October 14, at Kuhn Village Barn. While in Britain the styles are mixed, he will call English country dances from 1 to 5 p.m. and Barn dances from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. with a potluck supper in between. Live music will be provided by the Cosmic Otters with guest Martha Edwards from St. Louis in the afternoon, and Heather, Chris and Evan in the evening. Sit and Knit in celebration of I Love Yarn Day - Oct 12

NALWO Playgroup Halloween Party
This year's Playgroup Halloween Party is set for Friday, October 26 beginning 5:00pm at Kuhn Barn. Applications being accepted for Wilson Fellowship
The Wilson Fellowship at Fermilab seeks applications from Ph.D. physicists of exceptional talent with at least two years of postdoctoral experience. The fellowship is awarded on a competitive basis and is intended to support strong, assistant professor-level physicists early in their careers. Mac users: Upcoming changes to VPN client software.
An upgrade to new VPN hardware (VPN is what you use to connect to the Fermilab network from offsite.) is expected to occur in early October. In order for your VPN client software on your computer to work with the new hardware, a new version of the client software is required. All centrally managed Mac OSX laptops that are communicating correctly with Casper have been updated with the correct version.
