Computing Technology Day - Tuesday, Oct. 6
Fermilab Computing will host a Computing Technology Day in Wilson Hall on Tuesday, Oct. 6, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. An industry exhibit featuring 20 companies will be on display in the atrium along with technical presentations in One West. This is an opportunity to learn about the latest advances in cloud computing, cybersecurity, big data, computer network, hardware and software. All Fermilab employees and users are welcome to attend. Power Outage at Fermilab Village Tomorrow, Saturday, October 3
On Saturday, October 3, there will be a power outage that will affect the entire Fermilab Village. The power outage is scheduled from 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. No computing network will be available during the outage. For more information, residents can contact the Housing Office at x3994 or housing@fnal.gov . Others can contact the Outage Coordinators at x8910 or x3004.

FY 2017 Diversity Visa Lottery Registration Open
US Department of State began accepting online registrations for the FY 2017 Diversity Visa lottery ("Green Card lottery"). Foreign nationals have until November 3 to file online. Muscle Toning Registration Due, October 8th
The next session of Muscle Toning will be held on Tuesdays & Thursdays, October 15 - Cecember 15 from 5-6pm in the Fitness Center Exercise Room. No class on 11/5 or 11/26. Fee is $82/person. Please register in the Wellness Office, WH15W, by October 8th. http://wdrs.fnal.gov/wellness/classes.html

Scheduling a meeting with the Visa Office
Scheduling a meeting with the Visa Office, just got easier. We no longer require you to schedule a meeting; however, if you wish to schedule a time with a staff member please use Outlook. If you don't have outlook no worries we have an open door policy. We welcome all visa related questions and are excited to work with you.

International folk dancing Thursday evenings at Kuhn Barn
International folk dancing meets weekly, Thursday evenings, from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Newcomers are always welcome. There is instruction and dances for children and newer dancers early in the evening and request dancing later on. Many of the dances are lines and circles, with no partners needed. There will be a special workshop on English dancing on Thursday, October 15, 7:30 to 10 p.m., at Kuhn Barn, with various guest teachers joining us for the Harvest Moon Dance Weekend. Scottish country dancing meets Tuesdays evenings at Kuhn Barn
Scottish country dancing meets weekly from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Tuesday evenings. Newcomers are always welcome and are paired with experienced dancers -- no need to come with a partner. English country dancing Sunday afternoons, Oct. 4 and 25, at Kuhn Barn, and special workshop Thursday evening Oct. 15
An "extra" session of English country dancing will be held Sunday, October 4, from 1 to 5 p.m. at Kuhn Village Barn. The program will focus on preparation for the upcoming Harvest Moon Dance Weekend, Oct. 16-18, featuring Bare Necessities, the nation's most famous English dance musicians. The next regular Sunday English dance at Fermilab will be the Halloween party on October 25. Ecologist Ryan Campbell discusses Betz Prairie's 40th birthday - Sept. 30
Ryan Campbell speaks at the Fermilab Collquium on Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 4 p.m. in One West. Amongst Fermilab's accelerators are over 2,500 acres of grasslands, woodlands and wetlands. Fermilab is where Robert F. Betz began his large-scale prairie reconstruction project in 1975. Ryan Campbell, ecologist, will present lessons learned after 40 years of prairie restoration. His talk will also cover woodland/savanna restoration, expanded invasive species control, developments in wildlife monitoring and volunteer stewardship and how GIS advancements have made operations more effective and efficient.

FSPA Officer Elections
Elections are now open for the Fermilab Student and Postdoc Association. Candidate statements and voting details are available online here: http://orgs.fnal.gov/fspa/pages/elections/. The voting period ends on Thursday, Oct. 1, at 5 p.m. After the election, join us at the Users Center on Friday, Oct. 2, at 6 p.m. to meet your newly elected FSPA officers. Siemens Mobile Showcase Is Coming to Fermilab
Siemens will be onsite, Tuesday, September 29, 9am to 1pm, exhibiting a fully-functioning instrumentation demo rig on wheels, showcasing their latest Process Instrumentation and Analytics products. You'll get free hands-on demonstrations, interactive process simulations, video training, and the chance to meet with Siemens product specialists, all under a single roof. ALL Fermilab personnel are welcome and encouraged to attend! Location: Fermilab Parking Lot, West of Wilson Hall, on Kautz Rd, next to the Reflection Pond.

NALWO Evening Social
Everyone is invited to an Evening Social sponsored by NALWO, Fermilab's Community Organization, on Wedensday October 7, 5 to 7 p.m., at the Users' Center (Music Room). Hors d'oeuvres and lemonade will be provided; other beverages may be purchased at the bar. Process Piping Design (ASME) and Process Piping, Material, Fabrication, Examination and Testing (ASME & API) scheduled October 13, 14, 15 and 16

OS X El Capitan (10.11) not yet certified for Fermilab use
Apple has announced that the latest version of the operating system, OS X El Capitan (10.11), will be released on Sept. 30. Desktop Engineering has begun testing to ensure that OS X El Capitan works with Fermilab tools and services including dependent vendor tools that enable Fermilab to remain DOE compliant. Once confident that OS X El Capitan meets the performance requirements, an approval announcement will be sent out, and you may submit a request through the Service Desk to have the upgrade installed. Desktop Engineering expects to complete this process by early December.

English country dancing will be held Sunday, September 27, at Kuhn Village Barn. The program starts with dances for experienced dancers at 1 p.m., and dances for everyone from 2 to 5 p.m. Newcomers are always welcome to join this social and accessible sort of dancing. We will dance to live music by Old Fezziwig's Band. The group meets monthly, year-round, and is looking forward to a special October weekend with the nation's most famous English dance musicians, Bare Necessities.
