Domestic water flushing will be performed on Saturday, May 19 and Sunday, May 20. This is an annual event that typically starts at ~0600 am and continues through ~1800 pm each day. During this time it is not unusual to notice water on the roadways, standing puddles of water around fire/flushing hydrants, lower than normal water pressure and discoloration of the water. Usually not too long after each area has been flushed the water pressure returns and the discoloration clears up. Please watch for the flushing crew as a good portion of their work is performed on Fermilab roadways.

The Age of Carbon: Buckyballs, Nanotubes, Graphene & Beyond - Lecture by Dr. Mark Hersam
Advances in human civilization have historically been correlated with the advent of new materials such as the stone age, bronze age, and iron age. More recently, with the broad societal impact of microelectronics, the past half-century could justifiably be labeled the silicon age. What will be the defining material of the 21st century? With substantial progress made in research globally over the past 20 years including the 1996 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for the buckyball and the 2010 Nobel Prize in Physics for graphene, is increasingly likely that we are about to usher in the age of carbon.
