Nominations for Physics Slam 2015 due Monday, August 17
Nominations for Fermilab's 4th annual Physics Slam (scheduled for November 20) are now being taken. Submit a short video explaining your proposed topic by Monday, August 17. Muscle Toning Registration Due August 11
This class meets for a fun and effective workout, designed for all fitness levels. It can build endurance and strong muscles, speed up metabolism, and improve balance and flexibility. Endurance training develops long, lean, well-shaped, toned musculature – muscles that are strong and do not fatigue easily. This enables better performance in most sports and – most importantly – everyday activities. Class will be held on Tuesdays & Thursdays, August 18 – October 8, from 5 – 6pm, at the Fitness Center Exercise Room. Fee is $82/person. Register by August 11. The Fermilab Women’s Initiative invites everyone to hear Carole Cowperthwaite-O’Hagan present “Guiltless: Work/Life Balance” on Thursday, August 13 at 3 PM in One West.
Carole is especially gifted in the areas of organization, time-management, and building quality relationships. A recognized expert for her coaching work, Carole is also an author, popular speaker, and trainer known for her engaging presentations and creative training style. She is a Registered Corporate Coach and instructor for the Worldwide Association of Business Coaches and a Principal Coach for Advantage Coaching & Training in West Chicago.

Call for proposals: URA Visiting Scholars Program - Deadline is Aug. 31
Universities Research Association Inc. has announced a deadline of Aug. 31st, for the submission of applications for the fall 2015 cycle of awards in the URA Visiting Scholars Program (VSP) at Fermilab. Award recipients will be notified by the end of September. These awards provide financial support for faculty and graduate students from URA's 89 member universities to work at Fermilab for periods of up to one year. URA makes two rounds of awards each year, in the spring and fall. The application deadline for the spring 2016 cycle is Feb. 29, 2016. Fermi Singers invite all visiting students and staff
The Fermilab Singers invite all visiting summer students, as well as regular staff, to join them in singing a variety of Madrigal and Modern vocal music each Wednesday from noon until 1pm on the Ramsey Auditorium stage in Wilson Hall. No prior experience or tryouts are necessary. All vocal parts (SATB) needed, (we will sort you if you don't know your vocal part!) International folk dancing Thursday evenings at Ramsey Auditorium
International folk dancing is held every Thursday evening, starting at 7:30 p.m. through September 3, in the air-conditioned comfort of Ramsey Auditorium in Wilson Hall. Newcomers are always welcome. There is instruction and dances for children and newer dancers early and request dancing later on. The group dances year- round, moving to Kuhn Barn after Labor Day. Pool Memberships on Sale
Pool Memberships on sale effective July 13 - August 16. Single Pool Membership $65. Family Pool Membership (up to 4 members) $152. Family Member #5 or more (living in the same household) $27 each. Pool Memberships can be purchased in the Wellness Office, WH15W, from 9am-4pm Monday-Friday with cash, check, VISA or Mastercard. Day Passes can be purchased at the pool from the lifeguard. Cash only. $8/day or $6 after 4pm. Fermilab Village Pool is open Tuesday - Friday, Noon-7pm, Saturday & Sunday, 1-6pm (closed Mondays). Fermilab Prairie Plant Survey
Be a field scientist along with Fermilab docents to help monitor prairie restoration. Learn to identify plants, map a prairie quadrat, and gather data that will be used to help track the progress of the prairie.Join us on one or more of the following dates: July 14, July 25, August 4, August 15, or September 19. Fermilab Board Game Guild
The Fermilab Board Game Guild meets every Tuesday at the User's Center from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM. Everyone is welcome, and no connection with Fermilab is required. Board games played include, but are not limited to, Puerto Rico, Ticket To Ride, Seven Wonders, Stone Age, Attica, Alhambra, Citadels, and many more. English country dancing will be held Sunday, July 26, at Kuhn Village Barn. The program starts with dances for experienced dancers at 1 p.m., and dances for everyone from 2 to 5 p.m. Newcomers are always welcome to join this social and accessible sort of dancing. The group meets monthly, year-round, with live music usually every other month.
