Fermilab Today Announcements

2014 FSA Deadline is April 30
Employees with a 2014 Healthcare or Dependent Care Reimbursement Account must spend the remaining balance by the end of the plan year. Healthcare expenses to be reimbursed with the 2014 Health Care Reimbursement Accounts must be incurred by March 15, 2015. 2014 Dependent Care expenses must be incurred by December 31, 2014. Claims for both types of accounts must be submitted to the plan administrator, Payflex, by April 30, 2015. Employees submit flexible spending claims to PayFlex online at www.healthhub.com or via fax.

Muscle Toning Class Registration Due March 24
This class meets for a fun and effective workout, designed for all fitness levels. It can build endurance and strong muscles, speed up metabolism, and improve balance and flexibility. Endurance training develops long, lean, well-shaped, toned musculature – muscles that are strong and do not fatigue easily. This enables better performance in most sports and – most importantly – everyday activities. The next session is held on Tuesdays & Thursdays, March 31 – May 26, from 5 – 6pm in the Fitness Center Exercise Room. Fee is $82/person. Register by March 24. Mac OS X security patches to be enabled on Tuesday, March 17
On Tuesday, March 17, starting at 7 a.m., the Core Computing Division will enable several OS X updates for Mac computers running OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5), Mavericks (10.9.5) and Yosemite (10.10). Alerts announcing the availability of the security updates for a manual installation will appear on your screen. You can install these updates at a time that is convenient for you. These updates will require a restart. If you do not install the updates at this time, the automatic installation will begin on Tuesday, April 7.

FermiPoint (including FermiDash), MyPoint, Web.fnal.gov downtime March 23 & 24
The Web Services Administration group is applying security updates and feature improvements to FermiPoint (including FermiDash), web.fnal.gov and MyPoint. Therefore, these sites will be unavailable for a period of time from 8 p.m. on Monday, March 23 to 8 a.m. on Tuesday, March 24. The expected duration of the outage is expected to be 6 hours. However, if issues arise, the outage may last for the entire twelve-hour period. This maintenance will not affect SharePoint 2010 sites. If you have difficulty accessing these sites outside the maintenance period, please contact the Service Desk at x2345 or via the web at servicedesk.fnal.gov.

Interpersonal Communication Skills course - May 20
This course is for employees that would like to increase awareness of their communication skills and personality type. It will help the participant develop the skills for more productive work relationships. School's Day Out : March 30-April 3
School's out Day Camp: March 30-April 3. Childcare for school age children (7-12 years) will be offered at Kuhn Barn from 7:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m., cost is $25.00 per camper/per day. Payment must be made at morning drop off. Enrollment will be accepted until noon on Friday, March 20. SPACE IS LIMITED AND WILL BE FILLED ON A FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED BASIS. Campers will need to bring a lunch. A refrigerator and microwave are available. Beverage at lunch, morning and afternoon snack will be provided. Email daycare@fnal.gov to register.

Monday Golf League
The Tanna Farms Golf League has openings for additional players on Monday evenings. First night of league play will be May 4th and run for 16 weeks. Individual handicap format with weekly games. SharePoint online training videos available for on-site users
On-site users can access more than 900 SharePoint training videos online through the Fermilab Library’s subscription. 2015 URA Alvin Tollestrup Award application deadline - April 1
Universities Research Association Inc. (URA) will make an award for outstanding work conducted by a postdoctoral research fellow at Fermilab or in collaboration with Fermilab scientists. All Ph.D. researchers in non-tenure track or non-tenure track equivalent positions at Fermilab or URA member institutions, or institutions collaborating in Fermilab projects, who are within six years of the receipt of their Ph.D. (as of the nomination deadline) are eligible. The work for which the award is made must be performed in conjunction with a Fermilab experiment or project, or under the auspices of the Fermilab Theory or Astrophysics Groups. URA Visiting Scholars Program proposal deadline delayed to March 30
Universities Research Association, Inc. (URA) has announced a delayed deadline of Monday, March 30 for the submission of proposals for the Spring 2015 cycle of awards in the URA Visiting Scholars Program at Fermilab. Fermilab Golf League 2015 Season just around the corner. Not kidding!
Fermilab Golf League is opening it's 2015 season in the spring. If you're interested in playing as a member of a four-person team in a competitive, but handicapped, league, please consider joining. We have members of all abilities and genders, so you'd fit right in. We have openings in both our Tuesday and Wednesday evening leagues. Golf is an activity enjoyed by many, but mastered by few. The key to getting better is to play more often. The Golf League provides an opportunity to do just that - reinforced by the competitive component. URA Thesis Award Competition
Fermilab and the Universities Research Association invite submissions for the eighteenth annual URA Thesis Award competition. Nominations must be submitted to Lenny Spiegel at lenny@fnal.gov by March 20, 2015 and should include two letters supporting the merits of the thesis being nominated. At least one letter should be from a member of the thesis committee of the PhD granting institution and, for work carried out in collaboration with Fermilab scientists, at least one of the letters should come from one of those scientists. International folk dancing Thursday evenings at Kuhn Barn
International folk dancing meets Thursday evenings every week at Kuhn Barn. Dancing runs from 7:30 to 10 p.m. and newcomers are always welcome. There is instruction and dances for children and newer dancers early and request dancing later on.
