Silk and Thistle Scottish dancing celebrates 20 years at Fermilab at Kuhn Barn - Nov. 4
The Silk and Thistle Scottish country dance group will celebrate 20 years of Scottish dancing at Fermilab on Tuesday, Nov. 4, at the usual time of 7:30 to 10 p.m. at Kuhn Barn. In addition, there are retirements, anniversaries, and birthdays in the group to mark. We will dance some favorites the group has had over the past 20 years. All are welcome, though there won't be too much dance teaching. Generally, newcomers are always welcome, and you need not come with a partner. Dances are taught and walked through, and there is occasional live music. Ramsey Auditorium horseshoe road closure beginning Nov. 3
The Auditorium horseshoe road will be closed to through traffic so that utility work can be performed. The road will be closed at the East end starting November 3. The duration of the closure is expected to be about 2 weeks. Access to the parking areas will be from the West entrance.

Performance Goal setting courses - Enroll in TRAIN

Computer Security Awareness Day 2014 - Nov. 11
Annual Computer Security Awareness Day 2014 - Tuesday, Nov. 11. Morning session will include ITNA-credit classes and PII training in WH1W and WH1E. International folk dance Halloween Party Thursday Oct. 30 at Kuhn Barn
International folk dancing will hold a Halloween Party this Thursday, Oct. 30, starting at 7:30 p.m. at Kuhn Village Barn. Costumes and treats are encouraged and there will be dances to unusual and interesting music selections. Newcomers are always welcome. The group dances year-round, moving to Ramsey Auditorium if the Barn is not available. Revamped Linux User Group meets Oct. 29
The Linux User Group, now held quarterly, will meet on Wednesday, Oct. 29 from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. in Wilson Hall Curia II. Topics include: firewalld, a new feature SL 7; sysdmin tools and techniques; service changes including the recent Kerberos upgrade, HEPiX and more. All Linux users and system administrators are encouraged to attend.

Scottish country dancing will hold a Halloween Party Tuesday, Oct. 28 at Kuhn Village Barn from 7:30 to 10 p.m.There will be live music for part of the evening by Tim Macdonald (the new US Scottish fiddle champion) and friends. Newcomers are always welcome and are paired with experienced dancers -- no need to come with a partner. The following week on Nov. 4 the group will celebrate its 20th anniversary at Fermilab, and more. English country dancing will hold a Halloween Party Sunday, October 26, at Kuhn Village Barn. There will be live music by Old Fezziwig's Band. The thematic program starts with dances for experienced dancers at 1 p.m., and dances for everyone from 2 to 5 p.m. Costumes and treats are encouraged. Newcomers are always welcome to join this social and accessible sort of dancing. The group meets monthly, year-round, and the next dance is Nov. 9. NALWO Playgroup meets Wednesdays, 5:15 at Users' Center
Parents with children ages 0 to 10 are welcome to join the NALWO Playgroup, which has resumed meetings on Wednesday afternoons from 5:15-6:45 p.m. at the Users' Center. Playgroup provides an opportunity for socialization for both parents and children. For older children, there are games and arts and crafts projects. Halloween Party for Fermilab families, Wednesday, Oct. 29, Kuhn Barn
NALWO Children's Playgroup invites all Fermilab families to a Halloween Party, Wednesday, October 29, at 5:30 p.m. at Kuhn Barn. There will be crafts, games, trick or treat, and a costume parade. Pizza and drinks will be provided and a potluck supper will be held. Please bring a main dish to share. A reservation is requested by Oct. 25 with the number of children. OS X 10.10 Yosemite is not yet certified
Apple released the latest version of its operating system, OS X 10.10 Yosemite, on Oct. 16. This operating system is known not to work with some of the tools and services used at Fermilab. Computing is working on making these tools and services compatible. Mac users should not install or use OS X 10.10 Yosemite until it is certified for use at Fermilab. When that occurs, we will announce this via the mac-announce mailing list and Fermilab Today.

Wilson Fellowship Accepting Applications
The Wilson Fellowship at Fermilab seeks applications from Ph.D. physicists of exceptional talent with at least two (2) years of post-doctoral experience. The Fellowship supports strong, assistant professor-level physicists early in their careers. It provides unique opportunities for self-directed research in experimental physics through work on the Fermilab particle physics experiment of the candidate's choice. Managing Conflict on November 5 (a.m. only)
This training is for individuals who want to boost their conflict management skills.
