Fermilab Prairie Plant Survey
You can be a Citizen Scientists at Fermilab. Help us gather valuable data on prairie plant populations. It's not difficult. With a little practice, you will be able to use our equipment to identify prairie plants, map a prairie plot and enter your data in our website. Join our experts as we track restoration progress along. Suggested age is 10 and older. Children under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult. Public Dates: Saturday, July 12 9:00 AM - 11:30 AM, Wednesday, July 23 4:00 PM - 6:30 PM - Saturday, August 9 9:00 AM - 11:30 AM - Location: Lederman Science Center. Scottish country dancing at Ramsey Auditorium Tuesday evenings
Scottish country dancing is meeting Tuesday evenings in Ramsey Auditorium for the summer. Dancing from 7:30 to 10 p.m. The times on summer Tuesdays in Ramsey Auditorium will be the same. The group is usually taught by Doug Jensen. Newcomers are always welcome and are paired with experienced dancers -- no need to come with a partner. International folk dancing Thursday evenings at Ramsey Auditorium
International folk dancing meets Thursday evenings through the summer at Ramsey Auditorium. Dancing runs from 7:30 to 10 p.m. and newcomers are always welcome. There is instruction and dances for children and newer dancers early and request dancing later on. Fermi Days at Six Flags Great America
Fermilab Days at Six Flags Great America on 7/12, 7/13, 8/2 or 8/3 (valid one day only). $33 (age 3 and older/no processig fee). Go to www.sixflags.com. Choose a park (Six Flags Great America). Onsite housing requests for fall 2014 & spring 2015 due by July 14
The Fermilab Housing Office is now taking requests for reservations for houses, apartments, and dormitory rooms for the remainder of 2014 and the spring of 2015. Please submit your request for reservations to the Housing Office by Monday, July 14. Requests can be made for any period and need not commence on any particular date. Please make your request to the Housing Office at 630.840.3777 or housing@fnal.gov. Individual requests can be made by using our Online Housing Request form at http://fess.fnal.gov/accommodations/housing_request.html. Requests for multiple housing units are best handled by direct email to housing@fnal.gov.

Fermilab Lecture Series Presents Technology for Advanced Neural Prostheses (aka Bionic Eyes!) - July 11, 2014
As the desire for more sophisticated neural prostheses increases, technology is challenged to meets those needs. In particular, central nervous system prostheses such as those being proposed for the substitution of vision are expected to utilize hundreds of channels of artificial neural connections to the brain. Current technology for electrodes, transcutaneously powered implants, and neural coding strategies does not fulfill the anticipated needs. Dr. Philip Troyk is a Professor of Biomedical Engineering at the Illinois Institute of Technology. He will discuss the latest technology in his talk on Fridayt, July 11 @ 8 pm. Construction work at At Main Ring Road and A0
Construction activities for the MC: A0 Compressor Cooling Project will begin the week of June 23, 2014. Approximately 130 ft. of parking will be closed at the South end of the A0 parking lot. This will allow for installation of ICW piping and valves. Also the Main Ring Road will be be closed during of the construction. Main Ring Road traffic will be routed through the parking lot.

The first C++ FNAL Software School will take place at Fermilab from Monday, August 4 through Friday, August 8. New updates available for Mac computers - June 12
On Thursday, June 12 at 7:00 a.m. the Core Computing Division (CCD) is enabling the 10.9.3 update for Mac computers currently running OS X Mavericks and Safari 7.0.4. CCD will also enable the 6.1.4 update for Mountain Lion (OS X 10.8) and Lion (OS X 10.7). Mac users should receive an alert, but if not then a software update check can be done by selecting Software Update in the Apple menu item in the main menu bar. By installing the update manually now, you can do the required restart at your own convenience. Automated install will begin on approximately Tuesday, July 8. If you do not see the updates, please contact the Service Desk for assistance.

FermiWorks training for managers
All supervisors and managers are encouraged to attend a classroom training session on FermiWorks, the new human resource manager system that will launch on June 30.
