Operation Terminology

Orbit

This refers to the position of a particle or a particle beam as it travels around an accelerator. The ideal orbit would keep the particle in the center of the beam pipe. In reality, if the particle oscillates about the idea orbit and remains in the accelerator it is considered to be in a stable orbit.
