Operation Terminology CERN
This Physics laboratory, operated by the European Organization for Nuclear Research, is located on the border of France and Switzerland near Geneva and was founded in 1954. Its primary purpose is to study the building blocks of matter and the forces that hold them together. In late 2007 or 2008, when the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) comes on line, CERN will surpass Fermilab and become the world’s highest energy particle accelerator.
