Needles and threads introductory meeting schedule
The Needles and Threads Cancer Awareness Project Schedule: two additional meetings have been scheduled. Monday, October 25, Noon-1:00 p.m., Conference Room One North, WH1N, and Monday, November 1, 5:00-6:00 p.m., Conference Room One North, WH1N. These meetings will provide an overview of the project. Please stop by to pick up an introduction packet. Not able to attend an introduction meeting? Not a problem -- contact Kathy Johnson kjohnson@fnal.gov or Sheila Cisko scisko@fnal.gov for an introduction packet. This activity is open to all Fermilab Employees, Contractors, Users and their families.

Introduction to COMSOL Multiphysics 4.1 and Its Electromagnetic Waves Simulation Capabilities tutorial offered Oct. 26th
Learn the fundamental work flow in COMSOL v4 with the demonstration of a typical multi-physics simulation example. All phases of the analysis process will be presented from drawing or importing geometries to specifying the physics, meshing to solving, and post-processing the results. Features and capabilities introduced at versions 4.0 and 4.1 will be emphasized. You will explore electromagnetic wave simulations as performed in RF and Microwave applications. Accepting nominations for Director's Award
The Education Office is accepting nominations for the Director's Award through Friday, Oct. 22. The annual $1,000 award recognizes one employee, user, or contractor each year whose contributions are outstanding, even among the many supporters of Fermilab's K–12 education programs. Nomination forms may be downloaded from http://ed.fnal.gov/award/ the Director's Award website. Hardcopies may be picked up from Gayle Millman or Carol Angarola on WH 15 West. The award will be presented at the annual Volunteers reception on Tuesday, Nov. 2.

Argentine Tango through Nov. 3
Our new series of four tango classes starts Wednesday, October 13, with instructors Daniel Noce and Ramona Nita. Classes take place each Wednesday in Ramsey Auditorium, Class dates: October 13, 20, 27 and Novermber 3. Accelerate to a Healthy Lifestyle Program
ES&H is rolling out its 2nd annual "Accelerate to a Healthy Lifestyle" program which kicks off October 1. The event will run from October 1 through December 31. The goal is to exercise three days per week for 30 minutes. The Recreation Department now has Regal Movie Theater Discount Tickets available. Regal Theaters recently purchased the AMC Cantera 30 in Warrenville. Other Regal locations include Bolingbrook Stadium 12, Lake Zurich 12 and Crystal Lake Showplace Stadium 16. We have $8 unrestricted tickets and $7 restricted use tickets available. IMAX and 3D are subject to a surcharge at the theater.

Fermilab Lecture Series Presents The Long Thaw: How Humans are Changing the Next 100,000 Years of the Earth's Climate Oct. 22
One of the ongoing points of discussion in the climate change debate is the impact of carbon emissions. In his lecture, The Long Thaw: How Humans are Changing the Next 100'00 Years of the Earth's Climate, Dr. David Archer, geophysicist at the University of Chicago and renowned author on the topic of global warming, presents some of the latest scientific findings on the complex topic of the global carbon cycle. The "lifetime" of fossil fuel CO² in the atmosphere is a complicated question but in general the CO² concentration will be higher than natural for hundreds of thousands of years.
