Accelerate to a Healthy Lifestyle Program
ES&H is rolling out its 2nd annual "Accelerate to a Healthy Lifestyle" program which kicks off October 1. The event will run from October 1 through December 31. The goal is to exercise three days per week for 30 minutes. Reminder: ReadyTalk is replacing MeetingPlace as the ECS phone conferencing system. On Sept. 30, MeetingPlace will no longer be available. If you previously had a MeetingPlace subscription, you already have a ReadyTalk subscription that is ready to use. SLF3 - End of Support - Oct. 10
That's right. The End Of Support for Scientific Linux Fermi 3 happens on Oct. 10. There will be no more security errata, enhancements, fastbugs, or bug fixes for Scientific Linux Fermi 3 after this date. If you have not already moved off Scientific Linux Fermi 3, you need to migrate to SLF4 or SLF5 as soon as possible. Although support is ending on 10/10/10, we will not move the SLF3 directories into the obsolete area until the first week of November.

Mental Health Awareness Part II - Oct. 12

This multimedia presentation will feature the presenters' compelling personal stories of living with mental illness and achieving recovery. They will discuss their Dark Days, Acceptance, Treatment, Coping Strategies, Successes, Hopes and Dreams. Down Syndrome Awareness Seminar - Oct. 13
Down Syndrome -- Imagine the Possibilities, Wednesday, Oct. 13, Noon-1:00 p.m., Conference Room One West. National Association for Down Syndrome (NADS). Increase your awareness and knowledge about Down syndrome, the resources that are available to individuals and families affected by it, and learn how both children and adults with DS have incredible talents and potential and are more like everyone else than different. Nancy Goodfellow (NADS) is the parent of a child with Down syndrome, past board member of NADS, and currently speaks to universities and hospitals about Down syndrome.

Excel 2007: New Features class offered Oct. 20
Explore the new features of Excel 2007. Customize the Excel Interface to fit your workplace needs. Analyze the enhancements in Excel spreadsheets and select those that will improve particular applications. Apply a Formula, use the enhanced Function Wizard, calculation options and the Function Library to improve the usability of a spreadsheet. Regal Movie Theater discount tickets available
The Recreation Department now has Regal Movie Theater Discount Tickets available. Regal Theaters recently purchased the AMC Cantera 30 in Warrenville. Other Regal locations include Bolingbrook Stadium 12, Lake Zurich 12 and Crystal Lake Showplace Stadium 16. We have $8 unrestricted tickets and $7 restricted use tickets available. IMAX and 3D are subject to a surcharge at the theater.

Fermilab Lecture Series Presents The Long Thaw: How Humans are Changing the Next 100,000 Years of the Earth's Climate Oct. 22
One of the ongoing points of discussion in the climate change debate is the impact of carbon emissions. In his lecture, The Long Thaw: How Humans are Changing the Next 100'00 Years of the Earth's Climate, Dr. David Archer, geophysicist at the University of Chicago and renowned author on the topic of global warming, presents some of the latest scientific findings on the complex topic of the global carbon cycle. The "lifetime" of fossil fuel CO² in the atmosphere is a complicated question but in general the CO² concentration will be higher than natural for hundreds of thousands of years. Americans with disabilities act update - Oct. 4
ADA and You; Information and Update. Monday, Oct. 4, Noon-1:00 p.m., Conference Room One West. Do you, a family member, or friend have a disability and are concerned about recent ADA updates? This informative seminar will provide an introduction to the ADA with general information and updates, followed by a question and answer session. Attorney Alan M. Goldstein is the Manager of the Illinois ADA Project and a senior attorney at Equip for Equality, the Illinois protection and advocacy agency for people with disabilities.

Mental Health Seminar, Part I - Oct. 5
Ending the Silence, Tuesday, Oct. 5, Noon-1:00 p.m., Conference Room One North. The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) DuPage is committed to advocacy, support and education to improve the quality of life for individuals with mental illness and their families. Pat Doyle is the Education Program Director for NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) DuPage. Pat’s passion on the topic of mental illness was shaped by her experiences growing up. Come and learn about the free resources NAMI has to offer individuals and their families.

Indian Creek road closed at 7:00 am Ocotber 6
Indian Creek Road will be closed at MI-8 from 7 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 6. Access to MI-10 will be available via Kautz Road during these periods.

Physics for Everyone lecture series begins Oct. 6 in Auditorium
"Physics for Everyone" is a non-technical lecture series about Fermilab science and culture. The first lecture will take place from 12:30-1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 6, in Ramsey Auditorium. Fermilab scientist Herman White will talk about the laboratory's past and present and take a look at some of the areas Fermilab will focus on in the future. There will be time for questions and answers. Subsequent lectures will take place on the first Wednesday of each month, unless scheduling conflicts arise. Fermilab scientists and staff will give straight-forward, plain English lectures on one of a wide variety of topics, including the history of the laboratory, how particle physics benefits society and even the laboratory's involvement in cancer therapy.

School's Out Day Camp
On Oct. 11, childcare for school age children (7-12 years) will be offered at Kuhn Barn from 7:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Cost is $25.00 per camper. Enrollment will be accepted until noon on Wednesday, Oct. 6. Space is limited and will be filled on a first come, first serve basis. The program will be cancelled if less than 7 campers register. Campers will need to bring a lunch. A refrigerator and microwave are available. Beverage at lunch, morning and afternoon snack will be provided.
