Visit Fermilab's Buffalo Herd Drive to the buffalo pasture to view a herd of about sixty buffalo from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. every day of the week. Driving is restricted to the roads that lead directly to and from the buffalo pasture. There is no fee. |

Explore the Margaret Pearson Interpretive Trail The Margaret Pearson Interpretive Trail offers a 20-minute stroll through a portion of Fermilab's restored prairie. The trail is located on Pine Street, about a quarter mile from the site entrance, across from the Lederman Science Center. Markers explain various aspects of a prairie ecosystem. A second trail offers a longer hike through the prairie and the Big Woods. The trail is open to the public daily from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. |

Visit the Lederman Science Center The Lederman Science Center offers hands-on science exhibits aimed at K-12. It is open to the public Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. and on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Groups of six or more must book a visit by calling (630) 840-8258. The Lederman Science Center will be closed on Sunday, May 29 and Monday, May 30. |

Ride your bike to Fermilab's Pioneer Cemetery In 1907 a Batavia youth, Augie Mier, was hunting rabbits when he came across an abandoned cemetery in a thicket of raspberry bushes. General Thompson Mead, a veteran of the war of 1812, is buried here. The site also commemorates eighteen early settlers to the area, with the last historical burial in 1871. In April 2000 Robert Wilson, the founding director of Fermilab, was buried here in accordance with his wishes. The Pioneer Cemetery is open to the public daily from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. The Cemetery is located across from the Model Airplane Field near Site 39. |
