Summer co-ed volleyball league produces two champions

Rene Padilla awaits the ball as Team #6 faced Team #1. It came down to the final match. Three out of seven teams still had the chance of winning the championship before the last round of play. On Monday night, the team of Tony Vaiciulis (Team #4) kept its championship hopes alive by winning 2 of 3 games. Tuesday night saw the direct match-up of the two other top contending teams, #6 led by Randy Zifko and #1 led by Sue Grommes/Tim Cunneen. Winning 1 of 3 games allowed Team #6 to end the season tied with Vaiciulis' team for first place, while Team #1 finished in third place, only one game behind. After the final match a crowd of 50 volleyball players and fans celebrated the end of the season at the Users Center with a party organized by league representative Lisa Carrigan.
