Spring Prairie Burns

Spring is just around the corner, which means that it is time for Fermilab's trained personnel to carry out the controlled prairie burns that were postponed in the fall. The burns will take place in multiple areas on site, one of which will be the southwest corner of Fermilab, near the Savannah subdivision.

Controlled burns are only conducted on dry days when the wind is blowing away from nearby houses. If poor weather conditions exist, the burns will be postponed.

Controlled burns are necessary to regenerate a healthy prairie. They clear out weedy plants and help seeds to grow so that future generations will be able to enjoy our native wildflowers.
