Fermilab Art Series presents:
Reduced Shakespeare Company:
All The Great Books (Abridged)

May 3, 2008 @ 8 p.m.
Tickets - $25 ($13 ages 18 and under)

A Little Dickens. A Short Longfellow. Reduced Proust... All the Great Books. The bad boys of abridgement unleash a brand-new comic outrage on an unsuspecting public. America's best loved comedy troupe takes you on a ninety-eight minute roller-coaster ride through its compact compendium of the World's Great Books. Buckle up and hop aboard as the three cultural guerrillas of the Reduced Shakespeare Company zip through everything you didn't get around to reading in school.

Since its origins as a pass-the-hat act in California, the Reduced Shakespeare Company has created six world-renowned stage shows, four TV programs, and numerous radio pieces Ė all of which have been performed, seen, and heard the world over. The company's itinerary has included stops at the White House, the Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, London's West End, American Repertory Theatre and Montreal's famed Just For Laughs Festival, as well as performances at performing arts centers and universities around the globe.

The RSC's first three shows - The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged), The Complete History of America (abridged), and The Bible: The Complete Word of God (abridged) - ran for almost ten years at the Criterion Theatre in Piccadilly Circus, becoming London 's longest-running comedies. For many years the RSC had more shows running in the West End than Andrew Lloyd Webber (and were also funnier).

The RSCís visit to Fermilab condenses literature into a 90-minute roller-coaster ride in All the Great Books (abridged), which has played to great acclaim at the Kennedy Center, Pittsburgh Public Theatre, San Diego Repertory Theatre, Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, Seattle's ACT Theatre, and Alabama Shakespeare Festival. The show also toured Great Britain, Holland, Ireland, and Sweden (in Swedish!).

For television, the RSC was its own category on Jeopardy! in the 2005 Tournament of Champions. They wrote and starred in The Ring Reduced, a half-hour version of Wagner's Ring Cycle and reduced the Edinburgh Festival for BBC. Shakespeare (abridged) airs regularly on PBS. For National Public Radio, the RSC have been heard on All Things Considered, Weekend Edition, Talk of the Nation, Day to Day, West Coast Live, and To The Best of Our Knowledge. The BBC World Service commissioned the RSC's six-part radio series The Reduced Shakespeare Radio Show, and The Reduced Shakespeare Company Christmas airs annually on Public Radio International.
