Mar. 2 deadline for The University of Chicago Tuition Remission Program

ES&H & Computing Sector website, CRL, Lasso unavailable Feb. 4
Computing Sector staff will upgrade the fnalpgsprd database operating system on Saturday, Feb. 4 starting at 8 a.m. The downtime will last six hours. Immediately following the upgrade, there will be application testing and validation beginning at approximately 2 p.m. for two hours. The following services will be unavailable during the upgrade: ES&H web site (xms content); CS web site (xms content pages); Education Office/Lasso; CDCVS Redmine services; Control Room Logbooks for experiments; General-purpose Postgres databases.

English country dancing Sunday, Feb. 5
English country dancing will meet this Sunday, Feb. 5, at Kuhn Village Barn. The afternoon will feature live music by Old Fezziwig's Band. The program starts with dances for experienced dancers at 1 p.m., and dances for everyone from 2 until 5 p.m. Newcomers are always welcome. Requests for On-Site Housing for Summer of 2012
The Fermilab Housing Office is now taking requests for reservations for houses, apartments, and dormitory rooms for the SUMMER of 2012. Please submit your request by Monday, Mar. 5. "5 Treasures" Qigong for Stress Relief begins Jan. 23
"Five Treasures" is a short, easy to learn, set of Qigong exercises. Specific attention on coordination of breath, posture and intention. This is a more in-depth approach compared to the drop-in classes on Wednesday and Friday. You will be able to select and record your floating holiday beginning Feb. 1. If you are going to use your 2012 floating holiday in Jan. please e-mail the Payroll Manager at lsmith@fnal.gov before you complete your timecard, so that a manual entry of the hours can be set up.

Tax Presentation for Users and Visitors
The UEC will host a tax presentation for users on Tuesday, Jan. 31, at 1 pm in WH 1 West, and streamed live to Argonne. KPMG will discuss US residency for tax purposes, taxation of different types of income, double taxation treaties, and more. The session will build on information presented last year by KMPG, but be more targeted to Fermilab and Argonne users. At the end, there will be a Q&A, and Fermilab’s Visa Office will provide information about a new online tax software system that will be available to some Fermilab users to help determine tax residency and prepare certain tax filings.
