Fermilab offers guided tours of accelerators and prairie

Visitors interested in taking a look behind the scenes are welcome to join Fermilab docent Nancy Lanning for a guided tour of the laboratory. Two different types of tours are offered. The two-hour Accelerator Tour includes a look at some of Fermilab’s accelerators as well as the Main Control Room from which scientists steer more than 40,000 devices to guide particles through the accelerator tunnels. The Prairie Tour takes visitors through parts of the 1,100 acres of reconstructed prairie located on site.

Lanning offers her tours on the following dates and times:

Friday, August 2, 10:00 a.m.: Accelerator Tour

Monday, August 12, 10:00 a.m.: Prairie Tour

Wednesday, August 14, 1:30 p.m.: Accelerator Tour

Friday, August 23, 10:00 a.m.: Prairie Tour.

There is no charge for the tour, but advance registration is required. Children age 10 and older are welcome, but an adult must accompany them. For more information, or to register for a tour, call 630-840-3351 during business hours.
