Carpenterworm Moth (Prionoxystus robiniae, Hodges # 2693), family Cossidae, Fermilab, 8 June 2006 The literature says the caterpillar of this moth bores into wood, feeding for several years before going through metamorphosis. It is a relatively large moth. The caterpillar must be impressive, perhaps somewhat damaging to trees. |
