A Message About Winter Viruses
Winter at Fermilab Snow is on the ground and a chill is in the air, which means that the flu could be heading your way. Nurse Karen Swanson, of Fermilab's Medical Office, would like to share some tips with you about not spreading germs. "Consider your co-workers. There are a few simple rules to containing winter viruses," said Swanson.

  1. If you need to sneeze, grab a tissue or a hankerchief.
  2. Always cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze.
  3. Throw out your tissue right away.
  4. Wash your hands! Scrub with soap and water for 30 seconds. If soap and water are not available, you can also use an alcohol based soapless scrub. Consider disinfecting door knobs, phones and other potential germ hosts.
  5. Stay home if you have a fever or feel miserable!
For more information on colds and flu, contact Fermilab's Medical Office at x3232.

Seasonal decorations in PPD
Fermilab's PPD office is decked out for the season. The ornaments on the tree feature photos of the people in the office. Send your photos of seasonal decorations at the lab to today@fnal.gov, and we will include them in a future issue of Fermilab Today.

The SPIRES 2002 list of top cited articles in high-energy physics, with a review by Michael Peskin, is available online. Papers with Fermilab authors appear at numbers 4, 34, 55, 78, and 90. Fermilab researchers are sure to be interested in this year's review topics: neutrinos, cosmology, extra dimensions, and string theory. The Fermilab Library is a partner in the SPIRES collaboration.

The best physics humour ever
Robert P Crease selects the funniest jokes about physics and physicists from his readers' poll

Three months ago I asked readers of Physics World to contribute samples of new physics jokes, fresh forms of physics wit, or cases of "found humour" in physics (see "So you think physics is funny?"). I received about 200 replies, including jokes in several languages, stories, Photoshop creations, video clips and links to science cartoon databases.
