Budker Seminar August 13
The Budker Seminar will be held at the User's Center on Monday, August 13. Free Pizza and beverages will be served starting at 5:00 pm. Everyone one is welcome to attend. The speaker this month is Nick Evans from the University of Texas-Austin; talk title: “An Online Tool for Tomographic Reconstruction in the Main Injector”

Scottish country dancing in Ramsey Auditorium through August 31
Scottish Country Dancing will meet in Ramsey Auditorium this Tuesday, August 7, and for the remaining Tuesdays of August (before moving back to Kuhn Barn in September). NALWO - Free Piano Concert on August 9
Free piano concert in Ramsey Auditorium, 12 noon - 1 p.m. Please join us as we welcome Sandor Feher back. Come to hear the splendor of Bela Bartok, W. A. Mozart and Frederic Chopin. URA Visiting Scholars Program deadline - Aug. 27
Universities Research Association has announced a deadline of Aug. 27 for the submission of applications for the fall 2012 cycle of awards in the URA Visiting Scholars Program at Fermilab. Award recipients will be notified at the end of September. These awards provide financial support for faculty and students from URA's 85 member universities to work at Fermilab for periods of up to one year. Heartland Blood Drive Aug 13-14
Fermilab will host a walk-in only Heartland Blood Drive August 13 & 14 8am-2pm in the WH ground floor training room. Anyone who donated on Tuesday, June 19 will not be able to donate Monday, Aug. 13 but may on Tuesday, Aug. 14. DRC appointments can be reserved by contacting Diana x3771. Unscheduled DRC's may be available by checking with HBC staff. Appointments will help collect the most units possible for those in need. Donors will receive a certificate for a quart of Oberweis Ice Cream. The June drive collected 90 life saving pints of blood. Your donation can save 3 lives. Blessings to all.

Martial Arts Classes
Kyuki-Do is a Korean martial art similar to Taekwondo. The next Fermi Kyuki-Do Martial Arts session begins on August 6. I will teach you how to kick, punch, block, throw and fall, basic self defense, and how to use a Bow Staff. Classes are held for six weeks on Monday and Wednesdays from 5 - 6pm at the Recreation Facility in the Village. You need to register for the class through the Recreation Office. The cost is $55.00. You do not need a gym membership to join this class. I will supply a free uniform to students who have never participated in a martial art before.

Howard Levy & Chris Siebold - August 18
Fresh from a Grammy win from his work with Bela Fleck & The Flecktones, Chicago-based musician Howard Levy returns to Fermilab's Ramsey Auditorium on Saturday, August 18, joined by guitarist Chris Siebold. Howard is known for his eclectic work as a harmonica player with Bela Fleck, as a soloist, composer, with his Latin-jazz band Chevere, and as a back up musician on a wide range of recordings with artists such as Kenny Loggins, Dolly Parton, Paul Simon and others. Project Management Introduction class scheduled in September
Learn to: Identify steps required to effectively and efficiently manage a project; Iniatiate, plan, schedule, evaluate, control, and lead projects to meet time, cost and performance objectives; Apply the principles of good team leadership; Recognize common snags and pitfalls that occur in projects and determine the best ways to anticipate them, avoid them or minimize their impact if they do occur; Analyze current project management practices and recommend improvements. Fermilab Prairie Quadrat Study
Help us gather valuable data on prairie plant populations. It's not difficult. With a little practice, you will be able to use our equipment to identify prairie plants, map a prairie plot and enter your data in our website. The Fermilab Management Practices Seminar (FMP) provides new supervisors and managers with the essential tools for effective leadership and management. It also provides experienced supervisors and managers with the opportunity to update and renew their management skills.
