Cafeteria Closed Saturday, Jan. 14
Due to the Monday holiday, the Fermilab cafeteria will be closed this Saturday, Jan. 14.

Tax Presentation for Users and Visitors
The UEC will host a tax presentation for users on Tuesday, Jan. 31, at 1 pm in WH 1 West, and streamed live to Argonne. KPMG will discuss US residency for tax purposes, taxation of different types of income, double taxation treaties, and more. The session will build on information presented last year by KMPG, but be more targeted to Fermilab and Argonne users. At the end, there will be a Q&A, and Fermilab’s Visa Office will provide information about a new online tax software system that will be available to some Fermilab users to help determine tax residency and prepare certain tax filings.

Argentine Tango Classes, Wednesdays, Jan. 18 to Feb. 8
Learn to dance Argentine Tango! Our new series of 4 tango classes starts, Jan. 18 and continues each Wednesday through Feb. 8 with instructors Daniel Noce and Ramona Nita, location: Ramsey Audiorium. Tango Basic Class: 7 to 8 p.m.; Intermediate Tango Class: 8 to 9 p.m. Per person price: One-4 class set-$60/$50*; Two-4 class sets: $90/$80*; Single class: $18/$15*; Two classes: $30/$25* (*denotes student discount) pay at class. Barn Dance Jan. 15
The Fermilab Folk Club presents a Barn Dance on Sunday, Jan. 15 at 2 p.m. in the Kuhn Village Barn with music by the $8000 Stringband and calling by Tony Scarimbolo. Everyone is welcome. You don't need to know anything, just come and have fun! Admission is $6, children under 12 are free, 12 to 18 year olds and people over 65 are $3. International Folk Dancing Thursday evenings in Kuhn Barn

North Eola and West Wilson to close for winter
North Eola Road and West Wilson Road were originally scheduled to close for the winter in December. A very late corn harvest in those areas and mild weather, delayed those closings. These two stretches of road will close for the winter early on Monday Jan. 9 and will reopen in mid-March.

Martial Arts classes begin Jan. 9
Kyuki-Do is a Korean martial art similar to Taekwondo. Come and start the New Year off right, but come prepared to work. There is no magic pill for this. It requires both mental and physical conditioning. The Next Fermi Kyuki-Do Martial Arts session begins on Jan. 9. Classes are held for six weeks on Monday and Wednesdays from 5-6 p.m. at the Recreation Facility in the Village. You need to register for the class through the Recreation Office. The cost is $55.00. Uniform will be provided for students new to martial arts. My maximum class size is 10, so you get a lot of personal attention.

Two Zumba classes offered
The next session of Zumba will be offered on Wednesdays, Jan. 11 - Feb. 29 in the Fitness Center from 12 - 12:45 p.m., fee is $45/person. Another session will be held on Fridays, Jan. 13 - Mar. 2 in the Fitness Center from 12 - 12:45 p.m., fee is $45/person.

Our Expanding Cosmic Horizons - Lecture by Dr. Rocky Kolb Jan. 20
New scientific tools will expand our cosmic horizons and enable us to discover life on planets orbiting other stars, allow us to see the first galaxies, and reveal the nature of dark matter and energy. In 1983 he was the founding head of the Theoretical Astrophysics Group and in 2004 the founding Director of the Particle Astrophysics Center at Fermilab. His book Blind Watchers of the Sky, received the 1996 Emme Award of the American Aeronautical Society. Rocky's research is the application of elementary-particle physics to the very early Universe. He is a co-author of The Early Universe.

Gallery Chamber Series featuring David Schrader, Harpsichord Jan. 22
Equally at home in front of a harpsichord, organ, piano, or fortepiano, David Schrader is "truly an extraordinary musician ... (who) brings not only the unfailing right technical approach to each of these different instruments, but always an imaginative, fascinating musicality to all of them" (Norman Pelligrini, WFMT, Chicago). David's concert, the first of the Gallery Chamber Series, includes music of Bach, Buxtehude and others. Tickets are $17 for this concert, or $42 for the series of all three Gallery Concerts including Quintet Attacca on Feb.12 and Arianna String Quartet on Mar. 4.

January 2012 timecards - float holiday
During the month of January the Kronos timecard is unable to populate the 2012 floating holiday. You will be able to select and record your floating holiday beginning Feb. 1, 2012. If you are going to use your 2012 floating holiday in Jan. please e-mail the Payroll Manager at lsmith@fnal.gov before you complete your timecard, so that a manual entry of the hours can be set up.

403(b) supplemental retirement plan contributions
Effective January 1, 2012, the maximum that participants can contribute to their supplemental retirement account increases to $17,000. Employees age 50 and older, or those who will become age 50 at any time during 2012, may make additional contributions (403(c)) of up to $5,500. If you want to change your supplemental retirement or catch-up contributions for calendar year 2012, please complete a Salary Reduction Agreement which can be obtained on the Benefits website at: http://wdrs.fnal.gov/benefits/2012SalaryReductionAgree.pdf or from the Benefits Office.

Open Badminton at the Gym
