Tevatron shutdown, lab-wide party today

Fermilab will shut down the Tevatron this afternoon for the last time. A broadcast of the event will begin at 2 p.m. CDT. Fermilab staff and users can watch the broadcast in Ramsey Auditorium. The broadcast will also be available online.

Fermilab Director Pier Oddone will host the broadcast, which will feature the shutdown in the Main Control Room, and the CDF and DZero control rooms.

A lab-wide party will follow the broadcast. The party will take place from 3 to 5 p.m. in Wilson Hall and the surrounding area. Shuttle buses will be available on 15 minute intervals beginning at 1:15 p.m. to transport employees and users to and from Wilson Hall. The last bus will depart Wilson Hall at 5:30 p.m.

Party attendees can enjoy a variety of international meat and vegetarian appetizers and desserts at stations set up in the Wilson Hall atrium and in the tents located on either side of the auditorium at the ground level. Beverage stations will also be set up in these locations. Please be aware that the cafeteria will close at 12:30 p.m. today.

Attendees can also take home two types of Tevatron souvenir posters and a souvenir lapel pin. Pins will be available in the lobby areas of Ramsey Auditorium before and after the shutdown event. Posters will be available Friday near the Auditorium and the front entrance to Wilson Hall.Pins and posters will also be available next week in the Office of Communication, WH1E.

Commemorative Tevatron t-shirts will also be sold today in the lobby of Ramsey Auditorium during lunch.
