Ready to hire? Use the new personnel requisition form

The Employment Department has rolled out a new and improved personnel requisition form. Those completing the form will find most of the required fields familiar, although it does feature these enhancements:

• The PDF format (usable by Mac/PC users) allows users to save the form and send it for comments before submitting.
• Positions added to the budget/headcount plan include a link to the justification form.
• A new drop-down list tracks the Organization & Human Asset Plan (OHAP) functional role.
• The description box now requires only a brief position description in order to eliminate redundancy with job description language and to capture knowledge, skills, abilities, project requirements, etc.
• A link to the work activities analysis form (WAAF) serves as a reference for physical activity requirements.
• A link to job and family grids assists you in filling the appropriate position level.
• A new checkbox allows you to indicate whether the new hire is eligible for relocation assistance (some positions may need approval).

Volunteer for National Lab Day with Fermilab

Fermilab will celebrate National Lab Day May 3-7.

National Lab Day is a nationwide movement to support science, technology, engineering and math education in our schools by connecting teachers with working professionals. This connection will bring more hands-on, inquiry-based laboratory experiences to students. This year's celebration of National Lab Day will take place for many schools during the first week of May.

Fermilab hosts STEM high school career expo April 7

Kane and DuPage high school students can learn about career options and meet with professionals working in these fields from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 7, at the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Career Expo The event is free of charge and will take place in Fermilab's Wilson Hall.

The expo will connect local high school students with scientists, engineers, technicians and mathematicians. The professionals will be available at display tables to speak with students and will participate in panel discussions about their careers and educational background.

DOE supporting major experiment proposed for DUSEL

Long Baseline Neutrino Experiment could cost up to $940M for construction.

LEAD -- The U.S. Department of Energy has effectively aligned itself with the National Science Foundation in order to support an anchor science experiment that will be housed in DUSEL and could cost up to $940 million for construction.

Dr. Kevin Lesko, principal investigator for the DUSEL team, said Thursday that the Department of Energy has formally stated that it needs to support long baseline neutrino research. Because of that, the DOE will support a long baseline neutrino experiment that will have Chicago's Fermilab shooting a beam of neutrinos through the earth to the 4,850-foot level of Homestake. The project will require the DUSEL team to construct the equivalent of two large cavities, which could hold 200 kilotons of water. Though DUSEL and Fermilab officials have not yet decided whether they will construct multiple large cavities, or just one massive cavity at the 4,850 level, the project will require them to do significant blasting at that level of the mine.
