Wilson Hall west side road closed Thursday-Monday
The road on the west side of Wilson Hall leading to the Linac will be closed for resurfacing beginning Thursday morning. The road is scheduled to reopen during the evening on Monday, Aug. 16. Please see the diagram (pdf) for more information.

Fermilab Singers concert Friday, Aug. 13 at noon
Come and hear the Fermilab Singers at noon on Friday, Aug 13. in the auditorium.

English country dancing this Sunday, Aug. 15
English country dancing will meet on Sunday, Aug. 15, at Kuhn Village Barn. The afternoon starts with dances for experienced dancers at 1 p.m., and dances for everyone from 2 until 5 p.m. There will be a potluck supper afterwards. Newcomers are always welcome. H1N1 Temporary Sick Leave policy removed
Due to the steady decline in both frequency and severity of influenza-like illness across the laboratory throughout 2010, WDRS has removed the Temporary Changes to Sick Leave (Influenza-Like Illness) policy from the Fermilab personnel policies. The standard sick leave policy is in effect immediately. Learn more

Singer and songwriter Claudia Schmidt performs in Fermilab Arts Series - Aug. 14
Versatile singer/songwriter Claudia Schmidt is equally at home whether she’s singing folk music, jazz standards or music for the theater. For almost four decades Schmidt has explored the nuances of acoustic music with her voice, 12 string guitar and mountain dulcimer. She performs a collection of original, traditional and contemporary writing. She's been featured on PRI's A Prairie Home Companion, Mountain Stage as well as in and Frank Galati's production of "Good Person of Szechuan" at the Goodman Theater in Chicago, for which she won a Jefferson Award. Argentine Tango, Wednesdays, through Aug. 25
Our new series of four tango classes starts Wednesday, August 4 with instructors Daniel Noce and Ramona Nita. Class dates: August 4, 11, 18,25. Aug. 20 deadline for The University of Chicago Tuition Remission Program

Applications for URA Visiting Scholars Awards due Aug. 20
Universities Research Association, Inc. (URA) has announced a deadline of August 20 for the submission of applications for the fall 2010 cycle of awards in the URA Visiting Scholars Program at Fermilab. Martial arts classes begins today
Kyuki-Do is a Korean martial art similar to Taekwondo. The Next Fermi Kyuki-Do Martial Arts session begins on August 9. I will teach you how to kick, punch, block, throw and fall, and basic self defense. Classes are held for six weeks on Monday and Wednesdays from 5:00 to 6 p.m. at the Recreation Facility in the Village. You need to register for the class through the Recreation Office. The cost is $55.00. You do not need a gym membership to join this class. I will supply a free uniform to students who have never participated in martial arts before. My class size is limited to eight students.

Regal Movie Theater discount tickets available
The Recreation Department now has Regal Movie Theater Discount Tickets available. Regal Theaters recently purchased the AMC Cantera 30 in Warrenville. Other Regal locations include Bolingbrook Stadium 12, Lake Zurich 12 and Crystal Lake Showplace Stadium 16. We have $8 unrestricted tickets and $7 restricted use tickets available. IMAX and 3D are subject to a surcharge at the theater.

Lunch & Learn about the power of preventative health care - Aug. 18
Wednesday, August 18, noon - 1 p.m., Wilson Hall, Curia II, 2nd floor. Grounding and Shielding of Electronic Systems course - Aug. 12 and 13
Learning how to solve electromagnetic interference and signal integrity problems on the job can be frustrating for the engineer and very expensive for the lab. While most of the electromagnetic and circuit principles involved are simple, the complexity of many systems masks the logic and simplicity of possible solutions. This course treats signals as currents; explains fundamental grounding, shielding, and mcuh more.
