Annual Enrollment begins Oct. 1
2010 Annual Enrollment will be October 1 through October 23. You can make changes to your medical or dental plan or enroll in the healthcare or dependent care FSA for the 2010 plan year. The Benefits Office and Insurance Carriers will host Enrollment Resource Sessions to answer questions and provide materials. Announcement Letters will be sent to employee mail stations. Yoga Class Begins October 6

Muscle Toning class begins October 6
The next session of Muscle Toning will be offered October 6 - December 17. This class is held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the Recreation Facility Exercise Room. Scrapbooking Club Open House - Oct. 12

Excel Shortcuts class scheduled for Oct. 13
Learn the quickest way to navigate among worksheets. Create your own toolbars to help customize your worksheets and job functions. Learn shortcut menus, the most efficient ways to enter text and many, many formatting tips. Spend time working with numeric formats, creating codes, working with Styles. Learn the “shortcut” techniques available with the AutoFill function, how to customize AutoFill and work with ranges. Develop your calculation and formula skills. All throughout the day, keyboard shortcuts will be examined to help you quickly access each function. Fermilab hosts Workshop on Applications of High-Intensity Proton Accelerators - Oct. 19-21
Register now for the Workshop on Applications of High-Intensity Proton Accelerators, which will take place at Fermilab Oct. 19-21. Workshop attendees will discuss the challenges for building a high-intensity proton accelerator, focusing specifically on superconducting linear accelerators and their potential applications for such areas as discovery science and nuclear energy. Computer Security Awareness Day -- Tues, Sept. 29
Fermilab's annual Computer Security Awareness Day will take place in Wilson Hall from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 29. This year's program will feature a special guest presentation about how cybercriminals use your information to make money, the underground economy of identity theft. Family members and friends of employees are welcome to attend the presentation at noon in 1 West. Argentine Tango through Sept. 30

Submit advance leave agreement form
As part of its contingency plans for a widespread outbreak of the H1N1 flu, laboratory management recommends that you fill out and sign as soon as practical the advance leave agreement form http://wdrs.fnal.gov/policies/policy/H1N1_Advance_Leave_Agreement.pdf and submit the signed document to the Fermilab Records Office, MS 124. Payroll and federal regulations require Fermilab to have signed copies of the form before the laboratory can pay employees advanced leave. Receiving all signed forms ahead of the flu season will ensure that you will get paid when you need to stay home due to the flu even when you run out of leave time.

Special movie screening in Chicago for the Year of Astronomy - Sept 25 - Oct. 1
As part of the 2009 Year of Astronomy project, the Facets Cinematheque in Chicago will show the film BLAST! about a team of scientists who hope to figure out how all the galaxies formed by launching a new telescope at the south pole under a NASA high-altitude balloon. Day of Astronomy in Aurora - Oct. 3
The Naperville Astronomical Association will host A Day Of Astronomy on Saturday, Oct. 3, from 12:00 to 11 p.m. at Waubonsie Valley High School, 2950 Ogden Avenue (corner Ogden and Eola Roads), Aurora. Fermilab physicists Rich Kron and Dan Hooper will be among the presenters. Activities include sun observing, night sky observing and an exhibit hall. Prairie Seed Harvest Oct. 3
On Oct. 3, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. you can take your green-thumb skills to a new level to help restore Fermilab's prairie by collecting native seeds. Some of the seeds replenish nature areas at the laboratory while others help build prairies at area schools. Enter at Pine Street and follow signs to the harvest. Wear field clothes and gloves. Bring hand clippers and paper bags. A picnic lunch will be provided. If you bring a group, contact Roads and Grounds' Bob Lootens at lootens@fnal.gov. A second prairie harvest is scheduled for Oct. 31.

English Country Dancing, Oct. 4
English country dancing will next meet on Sunday October 4, at Kuhn Village Barn. The afternoon starts with dances for experienced dancers at 1:00 p.m., and dances for everyone from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. The group usually holds a potluck supper to follow dancing. Newcomers are always welcome. English dancing will continue through the fall, winter and spring on the 1st Sunday of each month.
