Bowlers wanted Wednesday nights
The Combined FermiLab & Nicor Wednesday Night bowling league (FERMTHERM’s) is looking for a few bowlers or complete teams to participate in a fun evening of entertainment and friendship. This is a sanctioned mixed league with both Fermilab & NICOR employees + friends. Bowling starts at 5:30 p.m. Cost: $15/Week includes bowling and prize funds. Vacation policy changes for exempt employees - Sept. 1
Beginning in September 2009, the reporting period associated with vacation time taken will change for exempt (monthly) employees to synchronize reporting and accounting dates in the electronic Fermilab Time and Labor system. This change does not affect the amount of vacation exempt employees accrue. Robotics for Fermilab employees' children
The Fox Valley Robotics club invites the children of Fermilab employees grades 5-12 to participate in robotics competitions. In the past many of the club's robots have qualified nationally. New Lo Cardio Class - Sept. 14 - Nov. 16
A great class for beginners or choose your own intensity. Improve your cardiovascular endurance and muscular strength at your own pace on the step or floor and we'll add light weights. We'll also work on posture, core and flexibility. A class for anyone who wants to exercise and have fun at the same time. New Tai Chi For Health class - Sept. 14 - Nov. 16
Tai Chi is a low impact form of exercise for those who want to improve balance, range of motion, flexibility, increase energy, lower blood pressure, core strength and have mind-body harmony at the same time. We will emphasize core work and posture to help ease lower back pain and relieve tension in shoulders. It is highly beneficial for anyone including those with Arthritis, Diabetes, Joint Pain, Weight Issues, stress or post physical therapy. Can be done seated. URA Visiting Scholars Program now accepting applications

Universities Research Association, Inc. (URA) has announced a deadline of September 18, 2009 for the submission of applications for the second round of 2009 awards in the URA Visiting Scholars Program at Fermilab. Successful applicants will be notified at the end of October. These awards provide financial support for faculty and students from URA’s 87 member universities to work at Fermilab for periods of up to one year. Mosaico Hispanico - celebrating Hispanic music and dance - Sept. 19
Presented in conjunction with the Fermilab Diversity Council, join us as we celebrate the music and dance of Spain, Mexico and Puerto Rico. The evening begins with the Las Guitarras de Espana, featuring music and dance of Spain, primarily Flamenco. The colorful Mexican Folkloric Dance Company of Chicago then takes the stage, with 22 dancers and multiple costume changes. English Country Dancing - Sept. 20
English country dancing will next meet on Sunday Sept. 20, at Kuhn Village Barn. The afternoon starts with dances for experienced dancers at 1:00 p.m., and dances for everyone from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. The group often holds a potluck supper to follow dancing. Newcomers are always welcome. English dancing will revert to the 1st Sunday of the month after September. Traffic Safety Contest
Thank you to all who participated in the "Do you see them?" contest that was presented by the Fermilab Traffic Safety Subcommittee (TSS). 34 people found all 12 kids who were hiding in the Atrium. The lucky winners of our random drawing are: Luke Thompson, Linda Sue Smith, Meghon Czamanske, Maria Diaz and Jason Mansour. Thanks to Chuck Morrison, Al Dyer, Dave Peterson and the other members of TSS for helping with the contest. We hope everyone had fun! Please continue to watch for children as school starts and throughout the year.

Melissa Clayton Lang's Good-Bye Party
Melissa Clayton Lang - the face of Fermilab's Visa Office for the last 4 1/2 years - is leaving the Lab. Her good-bye party will be held today, Thursday, August 27, from 3 to 5 p.m. on the 15th floor, south crossover. Please come to say good-bye and to meet her replacement. Melissa has been a friendly, welcoming face for many of the foreign visitors and employees at the Lab, and we hope that everyone whom she has helped over the years will come to the party.
