Bowlers Wanted
The Combined FermiLab & Nicor Wednesday Night bowling league (FERMTHERM’s) is looking for a few bowlers or complete teams to participate in a fun evening of entertainment and friendship. This is a sanctioned mixed league with both Fermilab & NICOR employees + friends. Bowling starts at 5:30 p.m. Cost: $15/Week includes bowling and prize funds. Place: Bowling Green Sports Center, 30W150 Roosevelt Rd., West Chicago (Rt. 38 One Mile West of Rt. 59), 30-week season runs 9/9/09 – 3/31/10. English country dancing, with potluck - August 16
English country dancing will next meet on Sunday, August 16, at Kuhn Village Barn. The afternoon starts with dances for experienced dancers at 1:00 p.m., and dances for everyone from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. There will be a potluck picnic to follow dancing. Newcomers are always welcome. English dancing will continue through September on the 3rd Sunday of the month, and then revert to the 1st Sunday of the month. Argentine Tango through September 9

Fermilab Blood Drive August 25 and 26
Fermilab will host a Heartland Blood Centers blood drive Aug. 25, 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and Aug. 26, 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Wilson Hall Ground Floor NE Training Room. URA Visiting Scholars Program now accepting applications

Universities Research Association, Inc. (URA) has announced a deadline of September 18, 2009 for the submission of applications for the second round of 2009 awards in the URA Visiting Scholars Program at Fermilab. Successful applicants will be notified at the end of October. These awards provide financial support for faculty and students from URA’s 87 member universities to work at Fermilab for periods of up to one year. Mosaico Hispanico - Celebrating Hispanic Music and Dance - September 19
Presented in conjunction with the Fermilab Diversity Council, join us as we celebrate the music and dance of Spain, Mexico and Puerto Rico. The evening begins with the Las Guitarras de Espana, featuring music and dance of Spain, primarily Flamenco. The colorful Mexican Folkloric Dance Company of Chicago then takes the stage, with 22 dancers and multiple costume changes. Muscle Toning Class - August 4 - September 28

Yoga Class - August 11 - September 29
This class is suitable for all ages and levels of experience. Yoga is held on Tuesdays from 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. in the Wilson Hall Auditorium. The next class is August 11 - September 29. Buttered Rum performs on Fermilab Arts Series Oct. 24

Process piping (ASME B31.3) class offered in October and November
Gain a clearer understanding of how piping systems fail and the code requirements and guidance to prevent such failures. The Night Before Christmas Carol - Holiday fun at Fermilab Arts Series - December 5

Accelerated C++ Short Course begins August 6
On August 6, Fermilab will offer the first session of Accelerated C++: A Short Course in Practical Programming by Example. This Course is an extended professional development experience emphasizing computer programming in modern standard C++. No tuition is charged; the required textbooks are available for check-out from the Fermilab Library. Participants receive TRAIN credit upon successful completion of the eight-session course. Newcomers Brown Bag Lunch - August 12
On Aug. 12 at 12:00 p.m. in the Blackhole, there will be a brown bag lunch for newcomers (anyone who has been here for less than 2 years), to help them transition to life at Fermilab. The 1-hour event includes a short presentation, Q&A time about either the presented topic or any other problem, and time to socialize. “Old-timers” (anyone who has been here 2 years of more) also are welcome to offer advice from their experiences. This month's presentation is by the Office of Communication, on "Communicating at Fermilab" - A How-To Guide, which will discuss the Fermilab website among other topics.

American Cancer Society Open House Today - August 12
Please join the Wellness Committee in welcoming the American Cancer Society on Wednesday, August 12 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Wilson Hall Atrium to learn more about cancer prevention and wellness, early detection screening recommendations, services and programs for cancer patients and their families, and volunteer opportunities and special events in the Fox Valley area. Bike Racks
The bike racks near Wilson Hall are not intended for long term storage. Several bicycles on these racks have not moved in months. Kindly relocate these unused bicycles to free up space on the racks.

Wilson Hall closed Saturday, Aug. 15
Wilson Hall will be closed on Saturday, August 15, due to a shutdown-related power outage. The power feeding Wilson Hall will be shut off between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. The cafeteria will also be closed. Wilson Hall will reopen about 6:00 p.m., after power is restored.

Pool memberships available in the Recreation Department
The Recreation Department will be selling pool memberships from now until August. You may purchase membership at the Recreation Office in Wilson Hall 15 West from 8:30 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. Single membership $80, family membership (2-4 members) $180 with additional family members $10 each. Children 2 and under are free. Children's swim lesson information will also be available. Forms are available in the Recreation Office, or on the Recreation Website at http://wdrs.fnal.gov/recreation/pool.html.
