Calling All Golfers! Join the Fermilab Golf League | ||

Have you seen these guys? These are four of the eight Fermilab Golf
League representatives that can tell you how to improve your golf game —
by playing more often! Want to improve your game, have more fun and meet
great people? The Golf League would like to hear from you.
The Golf League consists of four individual leagues, playing on three local courses
on two different nights of the week. All told, there are over 100 golfers
in the league, and we'd like a few more.
The leagues at Fermilab allow golfers to play in friendly, four-person team competition each week. Our handicapped matches ensure that golfers of widely varying ability are able to compete fairly. Membership is open to all Fermilab employees (both present and past), their families and contractors doing business with the lab. While this year's roster of league representatives are all men, we have a respectful number of women that play as well. If you don't feel that you can commit to playing every week, all of the leagues offer positions for substitutes that play in an as needed basis.

Combination Store (Combo Platter) The reason why the Tevatron has been producing record-breaking luminosities is because of the accelerator complex's ability to produce combination stores.
The Main Injector sends protons to the Antiproton Source's nickel target, which makes the antiprotons. The Debuncher manipulates the antiprotons and stores them in the Accumulator, but its storage capacity is limited.

From AScribe, March 29, 2005 In Support of Science: Members of Congress on the FY 2006 S&T Budget When Congress returns from its recess next week attention to the FY 2006 appropriations bills will increase. While the first bills are many weeks away, the new chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, Jerry Lewis (R-CA), has told his subcommittee chairmen to put their draft bills on a fast track. This and forthcoming FYIs will focus on what has been said about the Bush Administration's FY 2006 budget request in a series of statements on S&T funding and several House Science Committee hearings. This FYI reviews a Senate statement in support of the DOE Office of Science and the NSF. See FYI #43 for a statement by Rep. What's Up with the ILC? Snowmass hosts ILC workshops in August | |

This summer, particle physicists from around the globe will gather
at two workshops in Snowmass, Colorado, to advance plans for the
International Linear Collider. Workshop participants will discuss
the accelerator configuration, specify necessary detector and physics
studies, and address machine-detector interface issues. The workshops
will be held jointly from August 14-27 to allow for collaboration between
the various expert groups. According to workshop organizers, the workshops
will be an excellent opportunity for individuals who have not participated
in the ILC collider program to learn about it and to begin active participation.
The goal of the Second ILC Accelerator Workshop is to establish a large portion of the baseline configuration of the ILC under the guidance of Barry Barish, the recently-named director of the Global Design Effort. Workshop participants will review the progress made since the first workshop, held at KEK in November 2004, and will outline the path to resolving the remaining baseline issues by the end of 2005. In addition, physicists will identify topics that require further R&D, and working group 6 will address communication issues and strategies. The Physics and Detector Workshop, organized by the American Linear Collider Physics Group (ALCPG), will focus on the physics questions to be addressed by the ILC and the detector technology needed to find the answers. Among several topics, the physics studies will investigate the need for precision calculations and connections to astrophysics and cosmology. The detector studies will look at the technical details as well as performance of different detector concepts, and workshop participants will develop future R&D and test beam plans. "This is the next in a series of meetings that we have held in North America over the past three years, the last being in Victoria last July," said Jim Brau, co-chair of the ALCPG. "This time we decided we were ready for a longer, two-week meeting to get more accomplished. We are also expanding the international participation."

Canoe Rentals Canoes and car racks can be rented through the Recreation Office, WH15W. Cost is $7 per day/per canoe and $5 for the car rack. This includes paddles and life jackets. Transportation of the canoes is the responsibility of the renter, unless a car rack is rented. Canoes are aluminum and 17' in length and have a maximum capacity of 5 people. Canoes are located in the garage between 10 Sauk Circle and Anderson Barn. Reservations and payment must be made prior to use. Canoes are licensed and may be taken off site. Arrangements can be made to pick up the canoes on weekends and after hours, if needed. Onsite canoeing is available on the Village lakes only. These are: DUSAF Pond, A.E. Sea and Lake Law.
