Memo and Fax Templates Added to Graphic Design Standards Web Page | ||

In April 2004, the graphics subcommittee of Fermilab's Design Task Force
rolled out the
Graphic Design Standards
Web pages. In an effort to reconnect current graphics with Robert Wilson's
vision and to unify the lab's distinctive graphics presentations,
the subcommittee designed an official letterhead,
standardized the Fermilab logo and color palette and recommended typefaces.
Over the past year, the subcommittee met with groups across the lab and received a lot of feedback about the new standards. As a result, templates for memos and faxes are now available on the Graphic Design Standards Web pages. "Everything we are doing is in response to thoughtful feedback," said Kevin Munday, a Fermilab contractor for Web design and development and a member of the graphics subcommittee. "Depending on additional feedback, we may add even more new features."
So far the graphics subcommittee has met with FESS, ES&H,
Lab Services and Business Services to demonstrate how to
download the templates and to answer any questions.
"I think that the templates are great," said Don Flynn of BSS
who attended the subcommittee's informational meeting last week.
"They are easy to find, easy to download and easy to install.
They should go a long way at Fermilab." The subcommitte will meet
with the lab's divisions this week.

From The Daily Herald, February 5, 2005 Fermilab throwing science party By Tona Kunz If high-energy makes you think of aerobics rather than physics, but you still wonder what goes on inside the recently locked-down Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, this open house is for you. Fermilab, on the eastern edge of Batavia, is throwing its doors open for a tour and talk that takes science down to the Everyman level. Call it the tour version of the popular "For Dummies" books.
Although Fermilab periodically offers small tours to high school students and adults, they require you understand at least the basics of science that make the world's largest high-energy physics laboratory tick.

Good Morning!
This budget request announces the decision to terminate the BTeV project in response to the budget constraints. I would like to express my admiration and respect for the many people in the collaboration and on the Fermilab staff who worked on BTeV over the last several years under the most difficult circumstances. BTeV successfully passed all of the physics and technical reviews conducted by the Office of Science before the start of a project. No project team has ever done a better job of demonstrating to the baseline review team that they were ready to go.
The Fermilab neutrino program and BTeV were intended to be the central
elements of the particle physics program at U.S. accelerators at the
end of this decade and into the early part of the next decade.
Now, although the scientific opportunities in particle physics are
great, no large accelerator or detector projects will be under
construction in the HEP program of DOE during FY 2006. The
inability to field any new experimental facilities in the U.S.
by the end of the decade threatens U.S. leadership in high
energy physics research. We will be addressing this issue with
the advisory committees, the Office of Science, and Congress.

World Year of Physics Volunteers Needed In honor of the World Year of Physics, Fermilab is trying to reach 10,000 students in their classrooms. Senior physicists, graduate students, engineers and technicians can all volunteer to spend a few half-days back in school. Demonstrations on electricity and magnetism, light and color, cryogenics, forces and motion and more are all available. Fermilab also has experts that can provide training and orientation.
