Brookhaven's Steve Peggs Named New Head of LARP Last month Steve Peggs of Brookhaven National Laboratory became the new head of the U.S. LHC Accelerator Research Program. He took over from Fermilab's Jim Strait, who was LARP's acting program
Four U.S. laboratories - BNL, Fermilab, LBNL and SLAC - collaborate with CERN's Large Hadron Collider through LARP. Its mission, Peggs said, is "making sure that the best accelerator physicists in the U.S. are available to help with LHC commissioning," while at the same time developing and preserving U.S. resources and know-how in the field. LARP's mission also includes R&D for future LHC upgrades, Peggs said. "We want to help the LHC make more luminosity, earlier," Peggs said.
Peggs is a member of the High Energy Physics Advisory Panel. He has been at
Brookhaven's Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider since 1992, and has also been
adjunct faculty at State University of New York, Stony Brook. In the past he
held posts at CERN, the SSC and, from 1989 to 1992, at Fermilab, where he
was cospokesperson for the Nonlinear Beam Dynamics experiment at the
Tevatron.

Summer Volleyball League Produces Two Champion Teams | ||

| The summer is over, and so are the games of the Fermilab Summer Volleyball League. Eight teams began the season on June 7, and during the last week of play four of them still had the chance to finish at the top. When all games were over and the sand was shaken out of the clothes, the teams of captains Randy Zifko and Tony Vaiciulis had recorded the highest number of wins over the course of the season. Both teams were declared to be champions -- a repeat of last year's finish when the two teams had tied as well. | ||

From Chicago Tribune, October 8, 2004 Electric plant eyed for east side site BATAVIA -- The Batavia City Council has taken the first step--and spent the first $1.1 million--toward building a new electrical substation in the east side industrial section.
Aldermen unanimously voted this week to purchase a 7.73-acre parcel on Hubbard Avenue in the Batavia Business Park as the site for the proposed substation. That land is just south of the Suncast manufacturing plant and across Kirk Road from the future home of Diamond Star factory.

Power Outage News Tevatron Tunnel, Service Buildings, Sumps, and Computer Links October 16 – Power will be off to all of Tevatron for 8 hours starting at 7 AM on Saturday. This outage is for Feeder 45 work. Kautz Road Substation October 18 – The power will be off to all of the Main Injector service buildings and its tunnel for one hour starting at 10 AM.
