Cathy Newman-Holmes Named New Chair of the Fermilab Colloquium Committee Cathy Newman-Holmes, of the Particle Physics Division, is the new Chair of the Colloquium Committee. Co-Project manager of the CDF upgrades prior to Run II, Newman-Holmes is now a member of the Pierre Auger experiment. Mike Albrow, also of the Particle Physics
Three new members recently joined the Colloquium Committee: Scott Dodelson,
Colloquia are held at 4:00 p.m. in 1 West on most Wednesdays.
"There were 45 colloquia during the 2003-04 season," said Albrow.
"Twenty-six were on physics, with about equal numbers focusing on particle physics,
astro/cosmology and other physics. Seven colloquia focused on the life sciences.
The rest covered such topics as computing, education, and non-physical
sciences." Almost all of the colloquia can be viewed on the archived
streaming video, accessible from the colloquium Web page.

Fermilab Arts Series Announces 2004-2005 Season | ||

The Fermilab Arts Series is pleased to announce its 2004-2005 Season, kicking off
with Dr. Ralph Stanley & The Clinch Mountain Boys on September 25.
Born in 1927, Stanley has been playing professionally since he and his oldest
brother, Carter, formed a band in their native southwestern Virginia in 1946.
Between that date and 1966, when Carter died, the Stanley Brothers and the
Clinch Mountain Boys became two of the most celebrated bluegrass groups in
the world. After Carter’s death, Stanley shifted the band’s musical emphasis
from bluegrass to an older, sadder, less adorned mountain style. As a bandleader
he nourished such young and promising talents as Ricky Skaggs, Keith Whitley,
Larry Sparks, and Charlie Sizemore. Stanley has recorded nearly 200 albums
along with the Stanley Brothers, the Clinch Mountain Boys, as a solo artist,
and to a broad new audience of more than 5 million on the soundtrack
to O Brother, Where Art Thou? And with the advance purchase of
Ralph Stanley tickets, you
will receive half off tickets for the Friday, September 24 film,
O Brother Where Art Thou? at Fermilab.
All Arts Series events take place at 8:00 p.m. in Ramsey
Auditorium, with the exception of the Gallery Series concerts which start at
2:30 p.m. in the 2nd Floor Art Gallery. Tickets are on sale for these and
the all other 2004-05 Arts Series events by calling 630-840-ARTS weekdays
from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
