Fermilab Welcomes Buffalo Fans | ||

Fermilab invites buffalo fans to visit its herd of about 50 buffalo (more
correctly, American bison), including 16 young animals born since April
12. At the current level
of security ("yellow alert"), visitors may come to Fermilab's Pine
Street entrance and receive a Buffalo Viewing Pass. The pass
allows unescorted visitors to drive to the buffalo pasture
to view the herd. Driving is restricted to selected roads
leading to and from the buffalo pasture. Bicyclists currently
are allowed access to the site without the need for a pass.
The Buffalo Viewing Pass allows everybody, especially families with small
children, to view the pasture where the young buffalo roam under the
watchful eyes of "Mom and Dad Buffalo."
This spring, Fermilab expects the birth of 25 buffalo babies.

Volunteers Needed for Ask-a-Scientist | ||

Over the past years, Fermilab has hosted a Sunday afternoon program, inviting
the public to visit the lab and meet with members of our scientific staff.
After 9/11, Ask-a-Scientist evolved into a more formal
once-a-month program
in association with the Lederman Science Education Center staff.
The program is usually held on the afternoon
of the first Sunday of each month and lasts about two and a half hours.
So far this year, Ask-a-Scientist has averaged approximately
105 visitors for each of the four Sunday afternoons.
"Many of us find Ask-a-Scientist to be a very rewarding way to spend a Sunday afternoon," said Peter Garbincius, Fermilab physicist and one of the organizers of the Ask-a-Scientist program. "You get to meet the lab's neighbors and find out what they think about science and Fermilab. We have some scientists who regularly sign up for many of these programs every year."
Ask-a-Scientist needs additional volunteers. No preparation is required, and
volunteers are welcome to sign up for a single session. If you are a

From the Kane County Chronicle, April 23, 2004: Liquid nitrogen takes Fermilab stage By Eric Schelkopf BATAVIA — Kevin Reid learned Thursday that bananas are not just for eating. Reid and other youngsters watched with amazement as Fermilab employee Jerry Zimmerman lowered a banana into a vat of liquid nitrogen.
After a few minutes, Zimmerman removed the banana. It looked the same,
but then Zimmerman used the banana to hammer a nail into a piece of wood.

Good Morning!
Many of us see the dedication and hard work of those who work immediately
around us at the laboratory, but we don't have firsthand knowledge
about whether that's the case in other parts of the laboratory.
The answer is an emphatic yes. To an extraordinary degree
the Fermilab staff is committed to the mission of the laboratory and takes
pride in contributing to the laboratory's success. Thanks to all of the
people who make Fermilab work well.

enters the Ring Road at DO. The truck actually enters the Ring Road at C0.
