Fermilab Design: Past, Present and Future The Fermilab Graphic Design Standards | ||

The graphics subcommittee of Fermilab's Design Task Force has been
working since June 2001 to reconnect current, state of the art graphics
with Robert Wilson's vision and to reinforce the unity of the laboratory's
distinctive graphics presentations. The subcommittee's effort
to design an official letterhead, standardize the Fermilab logo and color
palette and recommend typefaces culminates in the new
Graphic Design Standards at Fermilab
Web pages.
The Web pages contain the new Fermilab letterhead template for Windows and MAC users and instructions for its use. Also available are guidelines for the use of the Fermilab logo, fonts and colors for print and Web publications, and tips and tutorials for Web design and the use of digital images.
"We hope that these guidelines will make design easier for users
throughout the lab," said Kevin Munday, a Fermilab contractor
for Web design and development and a member of the graphics
subcommittee. "Fermilab staff and contractors should find these
recommendations and guidelines useful for posters, brochures,
flyers, Web sites and all other communications, especially those
intended for the public."

A Hole in Texas offers the choice between two emblematic stereotypes: a red-faced opportunist who heads the House Armed Services Committee and a mustachioed investigative reporter for the Washington Post. Both are melodramatic, even comical cliches to serve the plot. But what a plot!
Wouk tells the tale of a colossal scientific project in particle physics, the Texas-based Superconducting Super Collider, done in by self-interested politicians who invariably mislead a clueless public with the help of weaselly journalists; meantime, news of a secret Chinese experiment that has found an elusive subatomic particle, the Higgs boson, touches off a national panic about an apocalyptic Boson Bomb.

What Are All Those Tables Doing in Wilson Hall? Yesterday, 200 members from the Association of Licensed Architects and the Fox Valley General Contractors Association spent the evening at Fermilab to attend a continuing education course titled, "Fermilab and the Architecture of the Universe." The evening's events included a tour of the lab, dinner and presentations by Director Mike Witherell, Engineering Manager Ed Crumpley and NuMI Construction Manager Elaine McCluskey, both from FESS. |
