Vladimir Shiltsev Awarded 2004 European Accelerator Prize | ||

Vladimir Shiltsev of the Accelerator Division has been awarded the 2004
European Accelerator Prize "for an individual in the early part of
his career who has made a recent significant, original contribution
to the accelerator field." Shiltsev is being honored for his pioneering
work on electron-lens beam-beam compensation and for his important
contributions to accelerator physics theory, beam simulations, beam
studies and hardware development and commissioning.
"He's one of the most accomplished and imaginative accelerator physicists on our staff," said Steve Holmes, Fermilab's associate director for accelerators. "The award is a very deserved recognition of what he's achieved and a broader recognition of what Fermilab can accomplish with such a dedicated and talented staff."
The European Physical Society's Interdivisional Group on Accelerators
presents two awards yearly. This year's second award, for outstanding
work in the accelerator field, was presented to Dubna's Igor Meshkov.
Shiltsev and Meshkov will present their work and receive their prizes
at the Ninth European Particle Accelerator Conference, to be held in
July in Lucerne, Switzerland.

Spring is Here! | ||

You know that spring has officially arrived at Fermilab when the Wilson
Hall plaza no longer has ropes, chains and cones. Early yesterday
morning, Roads & Grounds removed equipment, which is used
during the winter season to cordon off areas in front of Wilson Hall
that could be potentially icy. Good riddance!

Join the Fermilab Habitat Restoration Group Tomorrow | |

You may have noticed that the woods along the path between Wilson Hall
and the Lederman Science Center look neater and
cleaner since last year, thanks to the Habitat Restoration Group.
The group has been working hard to remove invasive (non-native) species
from this area. This spring the Habitat Restoration Group hopes to
see native wildflowers in abundance due to opening up the area which
lets more nurturing sunlight reach the ground.
The Habitat Restoration Group will start their 2004 restoration activities tomorrow on Saturday, March 27. The group meets the fourth Saturday of every month, from March through October.
Come and join the group; get some fresh air; feel good about
making a difference! The group meets at 8:00 a.m. at the
Lederman Science Education Center for coffee and donuts and works
until noon along the path. Hope to see you there!
