Employee Health & Fitness Day Tuesday
Employee Health & Fitness Day is Tuesday, May 20 from 11:30am-12:30pm. Start at A1 on the Main Ring (From the East Side of Wilson Hall, take steps over the berm to the Main Ring). Walk, run, bike or rollerblade with coworkers. T-shirts, drawstring bags, fitness towels & exercise bands to first 400 participants. Free Italian Ice Cup coupon valid at the cafeteria to first 300 participants. Active For Life Participants earn 10 Bonus Points for volunteering and/or 10 Bonus Points for wearing sunscreen. Hula Hoop Contest Monday
Hula Hoop Contest on Monday, May 19 at noon, outside Wilson Hall East Side. Bring your own hula hoop or use one of ours. This will be great fun and there will be prizes. Registration is open for the Fermilab Annual Users Meeting, June 11-12, 2014, at the web site: http://www.fnal.gov/orgs/fermilab_users_org/users_mtg/2014/. The program for the two-day meeting can also be found from that web site. Please register for the Users Meeting before the registration deadline of Wednesday, June 4. Registration for the Users Meeting is free.

The CIE + Cisco EIR Innovation Challenge
Is Your Game-Changing Idea Ready for a Challenge? The Chicago Innovation Exchange (CIE) at the University of Chicago and Cisco Entrepreneurs in Residence (Cisco EIR) have announced the CIE + Cisco EIR Innovation Challenge for local entrepreneurs in the fields of The Internet of Everything, Big Data, and Analytics. Finalists in the Challenge will recieve feedback from industry experts, marketing support from CIE and Cisco EIR, and invitations to attend Internet of Things World Forum. Guided Walk through Fermilab's Pioneer Cemetery, noon, Tuesday, May 20 (please RSVP)
Adrienne Kolb, Fermilab’s historian and archivist, will lead a visit to the pioneer cemetery on the Fermilab site, which includes the burial plots of Bob and Jane Wilson, at noon, Tuesday, May 20 (rain date May 22). The cemetery is located near site 39 (see the site map at http://www.fnal.gov/pub/visiting/map/site.html. Be prepared to walk outside: wear clothing appropriate for the weather, and closed shoes. After the tour, Ellen Lockyer has invited those attending to come to her house at site 29 for refreshments. You may bring a picnic lunch to eat there. Fermilab Arts & Lecture Series Presents The Quantum Universe - Dr. Hitoshi Murayama - June 11
Presented in collaboration with the Fermilab Annual Users Meeting. Where do we come from? Science is making progress on this age-old question of humankind. The Universe was once much smaller than the size of an atom. Small things mattered in the small Universe, where quantum physics dominated the scene. Hitoshi Murayama is a theoretical physicist who works on the connection between the physics of the small (elementary particles) and the large (the Universe). He is a professor at the Univ. of California - Berkeley and one of the founding directors of the Kavli Institute at the Univ. of Tokyo. Fermi Pool Memberships
Fermi Pool open Tuesday, June 10-Sunday, August 17. Pool hours: Tuesday-Friday, Noon-7pm, Saturday/Sunday, 1-6pm. Closed Mondays. Pool membership is open to Fermi employees, retirees, visiting researchers, contractors, onsite DOE employees and immediate families living in same household of above. Memberships are not transferable and non-refundable. Single Membership $126. Family Membership $294 (up to 4 family members), additional family members over 4 are $54. Children age 2 and under are free. Lifeguards do not sell pool memberships. Memberships are sold in the Wellness Office at WH15W, Monday-Friday, 9am-4pm. Mac OS X security patch available for install, May 13
On Tuesday, May 13, Desktop Engineering is enabling Security Update 2014-002 through the central Apple update server for all Fermi-owned Macs running OS X 10.9 (Mavericks), 10.8 (Mountain Lion) and 10.7 (Lion). Users should install the update when the Mac OS X message appears stating that updates are available. If the message does not appear, check using Software Update found in the Apple menu. This update requires a restart to complete; by installing it manually, you can do this at your own convenience. If you do not install the update at this time, then automated install for this update will begin on Tuesday, June 10.

Martial Arts
Kyuki-Do is a Korean martial art similar to Taekwondo. The next Fermi Kyuki-Do Martial Arts session begins on May 12th. I will teach you how to kick, punch, block, throw and fall, and basic self defense. I will also train you in the use of Bow Staff and Japanese sword. Classes are held for six weeks on Monday and Wednesdays from 5 - 6 PM at the Recreation Facility in the Village. You need to register for the class through the Recreation Office. The cost is $60.00. You do not need a gym membership to join this class. I will supply a free uniform to students who have never participated in martial arts before.

Mac OSX end of life May 21
On May 21, any Apple Computer running Mac OSX 10.6 will be blocked from accessing the Fermilab network. This operating system is no longer supported by Apple and therefore, no longer receives security updates. Fermilab-owned computers, by laboratory policy, must run vendor-supported operating systems to avoid security risks. If your Fermilab-owned computer is running Mac OS X 10.6, please contact the Service Desk immediately by calling x2345 or via the web interface at https://fermi.service-now.com/fsc/ to determine whether your computer can be upgraded. Computers that cannot be upgraded must be excessed or removed from the Fermilab network.

Thursday Night Golf at Arrowhead Golf Course
A group of Fermilab employees are playing golf at Arrowhead Golf Course in Wheaton on Thursday evenings from now until September. Tee times typically start around 4:15. Anyone is welcome to play and no commitments are necessary. Play every week, or only once, it doesn't matter. If you are interested in playing, please contact Jonathan Hunt at x4312.

Be a winner! Take the Take Five Challenge Spring 2014!
Take the Take Five Challenge — Spring 2014 in the ESH&Q Section in Wilson-Hall 7-East, at the Take Five for Goal Zero website, print it and bring it to the ESH&Q Section, or send it in with results to Mail Station 119 by May 29 for a chance to win our raffle. Five personnel will be notified of their prizes on May 30.

English country dancing Sunday, May 4, and also Sunday, May 18, with live music
English country dancing will be held Sunday, May 4, at Kuhn Village Barn. The program starts with dances for experienced dancers at 1 p.m., and dances for everyone from 2 to 5 p.m. Newcomers are always welcome to join this social and accessible sort of dancing. The group will meet again on May 18, as they switch to the varying summer schedule. On May 18 there will be live music by Old Fezziwig's Band. Dancing May 4 is to beautiful recorded music. Wilson Street Entrance Closed Starting May 5
The Wilson Street entrance to the Fermilab site will be closed starting May 5 for construction. It is scheduled to reopen on Monday May 19, weather permitting. Truck deliveries and employees will be re-routed to the Pine Street entrance.

Change in tax practice may affect some visitors
Beginning with the 2014 tax year, the Laboratory will no longer issue W-2 forms to non-employees (i.e. visitors on extended stay). Income and taxes withheld will be reported on IRS forms 1099 or 1042(S). Withholding amounts may also differ. General Accounting will send a memo with more information to the individuals affected.
