Wifi network maintenance: Fri. May 9 through Sun. May 11
Between Friday, May 9 at 6:00 p.m. and Sunday, May 11 at 6:00 p.m., Network Services will be upgrading the software that controls the Fermilab campus wifi networks. Fermilab wifi network users may experience short periods of slow network response during this time. Please contact the Service Desk if you have any questions.

Women Softball Players Needed for Fermi Coed League
The Fermilab Coed Softball League is in need of female softball players. This is a coed league and each team is required to have at least 2 females on their roster. We have a few teams that are short. Please contact League Representative, Dave Hockin, at hockin@fnal.gov as soon as possible. Games are played at 5:30pm on Wednesday or Thursday. They are ready to play.

Fermilab scientist gives Higgs talk - May 15
Fermilab scientist Scott Dodelson and CERN scientist Michel Spiro will give a talk on the discovery of the Higgs boson as part of the French-American Science Festival. The Festival takes place from May 13-15. Their talk takes place on May 15, 6:30 p.m., at the Alliance Française de Chicago. http://sciencefest.france-science.org/conferences/

Budker Seminar May 12
Please join us at the User's Center Monday, May 12 for the monthly Budker Seminar that begins at 5:00 pm. This month's speaker is Jeff Eldred from Indiana University. Talk title: "Dynamical Stability of Slip-stacking Particles". Free pizza and beverages will be served. Please contact Margie at x5680 with any questions.

Mac OSX end of life May 21
On May 21, any Apple Computer running Mac OSX 10.6 will be blocked from accessing the Fermilab network. This operating system is no longer supported by Apple and therefore, no longer receives security updates. Fermilab-owned computers, by laboratory policy, must run vendor-supported operating systems to avoid security risks. If your Fermilab-owned computer is running Mac OS X 10.6, please contact the Service Desk immediately by calling x2345 or via the web interface at https://fermi.service-now.com/fsc/ to determine whether your computer can be upgraded. Computers that cannot be upgraded must be excessed or removed from the Fermilab network.

FermiPoint and MyPoint (SharePoint 2013) extended outage – Saturday, May 10
FermiPoint (SharePoint 2013) and MyPoint (My Site) will be unavailable on Saturday, May 10, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. while support staff updates the log-in experience. After the update, you will be able to use your SERVICES account to access these sites from any browser, just as you do for SharePoint 2010. After logging in for the first time, you should not be prompted to log in again, even if you close and re-open these sites, unless you specifically log out or exceed the time-out period (to be set for an extended time.) Thursday Night Golf at Arrowhead Golf Course
A group of Fermilab employees are playing golf at Arrowhead Golf Course in Wheaton on Thursday evenings from now until September. Tee times typically start around 4:15. Anyone is welcome to play and no commitments are necessary. Play every week, or only once, it doesn't matter. If you are interested in playing, please contact Jonathan Hunt at x4312.

Be a winner! Take the Take Five Challenge Spring 2014!
Take the Take Five Challenge — Spring 2014 in the ESH&Q Section in Wilson-Hall 7-East, at the Take Five for Goal Zero website, print it and bring it to the ESH&Q Section, or send it in with results to Mail Station 119 by May 29 for a chance to win our raffle. Five personnel will be notified of their prizes on May 30.

Yoga Open House Class on Thursday May 8
Thursday, May 8, there will be a free trial Yoga class for those that want to learn more about it or have never tried it before. This will be held in the Auditorium from 12-12:45pm. The next sessions of Yoga will be offered on Mondays and Thursdays. Please note that the location of the next sessions has been changed to the Wilson Hall Ground Floor Training Room on the East Side. Monday Session: May 12 – June 23 (no class 5/26) in the WHGFE Training Room from 12-12:45pm. Fee is $45/person. Thursday Session: May 15 – June 19 in the WHGFE Training Room from 12-12:45pm. Joint Speaker Series: Science and Serendipity - May 21

Central web service town hall meeting May 8
In early June, the Fermilab central web service will be modernized with new hardware and tools. English country dancing Sunday, May 4, and also Sunday, May 18, with live music
English country dancing will be held Sunday, May 4, at Kuhn Village Barn. The program starts with dances for experienced dancers at 1 p.m., and dances for everyone from 2 to 5 p.m. Newcomers are always welcome to join this social and accessible sort of dancing. The group will meet again on May 18, as they switch to the varying summer schedule. On May 18 there will be live music by Old Fezziwig's Band. Dancing May 4 is to beautiful recorded music. Take the train commuting survey by May 9
Fermilab is exploring the possibility of providing a daily shuttle to and from a nearby Metra Rail station for those commuting by train. The implementation of a shuttle depends on your feedback. Wilson Street Entrance Closed Starting May 5
The Wilson Street entrance to the Fermilab site will be closed starting May 5 for construction. It is scheduled to reopen on Monday May 18, weather permitting. Truck deliveries and employees will be re-routed to the Pine Street entrance.

Change in tax practice may affect some visitors
Beginning with the 2014 tax year, the Laboratory will no longer issue W-2 forms to non-employees (i.e. visitors on extended stay). Income and taxes withheld will be reported on IRS forms 1099 or 1042(S). Withholding amounts may also differ. General Accounting will send a memo with more information to the individuals affected.
