An Overview of Applied Vacuum Technology (Shortened version of Fundamentals of Vacuum Technology)7
This 2-day course is for managers, technicians, engineers, and scientists who desire an introduction to the concepts, hardware, and instrumentation used in applied vacuum technology today. HAWK TALK: Raptors of the Fermilab Region

Barn Dance March 16
The Fermilab Folk Club presents a Barn Dance on Sunday, March 16 at 2 p.m. in the Kuhn Village Barn with music by Jordan & Co. and calling by Dan Saathoff. Everyone is welcome. You don't need to know anything, just come and have fun! Admission is $6, children under 12 are free, 12 to 18 year olds and people over 65 are $3. West Bike Rack Area Closed
The bike racks and adjacent area located west of Wilson Hall will be closed due to construction activities for the remote operations centers. The east side bike racks will be available during the construction period.

Walk 2 Run Begins March 20
This FREE 10-week program will teach you to run, improve your fitness, and assist you in losing weight and lowering cholesterol. Week One will consist of running 2 minutes and walking 4 minutes, repeated 5 times. We will gradually increase your running potential each week. Week Ten will consist of a 30 minute continuous run. "Particle Fever" opens in Naperville and Chicago - March 14
The new documentary "Particle Fever" opens on Friday, March 14, at the AMC Showplace Naperville 16 and the Music Box Theatre in Chicago. In select showings at the AMC in Naperville, audience members will be treated to a special Q&A with scientists on LHC experiments. Stay tuned to Fermilab Today for times and other details. "Particle Fever" follows several scientists in their search for the Higgs boson at CERN's Large Hadron Collider in the years running up to the discovery. MySQL relational database management system course - April 22-23
This 2-day course encourages application and web developers and system administrators to explore database fundamentals, as well as MySQL features. You will learn the basics of MySQL use and the programming of stored routines and triggers. Portions of West Atrium Stair Closed for Construction
Construction work for the Experimental Operations Center is scheduled to begin on Monday, March 10, 2014. This work, on the Atrium Level of Wilson Hall, will require the closing of portions of the west stairway. Access from the ground floor, Atrium level and second floor of this stairway will be blocked for the duration of the construction activities. Access above the second floor will be maintained.

The FRA Scholarship is awarded on a competitive basis to the child of a parent who is a regular, full-time Fermilab/FRA employee. URA Thesis Award Competition
Fermilab and the Universities Research Association invite submissions for the seventeenth annual URA Thesis award competition. Nominations must be submitted to Bob Zwaska at zwaska@fnal.gov by March 20, 2014 and should include two letters supporting the merits of the thesis being nominated. At least one letter should be from a member of the thesis committee of the PhD granting institution and, for work carried out in collaboration with Fermilab scientists, at least one of the letters should come from one of those scientists. Photography contest
Entries are now being accepted for the Summer Lecture Series photo contest. The winning photo will be featured as the background of the lecture series poster, which will be displayed throughout the Fermilab campus. Entries should convey the themes of Fermilab and summer. Entrants should also keep in mind that the photo will appear underneath text. Everyone may participate. The prize is a print of your photo and a pound of artisan coffee, compliments of the Fermilab Photo Club. The entry deadline is Friday, March 21, at noon. Submit your entry to photo2014@fnal.gov. Scottish country dancing meets Tuesday evenings at Kuhn Village Barn
Silk and Thistle Scottish country dancing is held every Tuesday evening from 7:30 to 10 p.m. at Kuhn Village Barn. The group and is taught by Doug Jensen.
