Butts & Guts Registration Due Feb. 28

Fermilab Natural Areas Annual Meeting
The Fermilab Natural Areas Annual Meeting is Tuesday, February 25 at 7:00 p.m. Please join the board of directors and other friends to hear about accomplishments in the past year as well as where the group hopes to go in 2014! We are seeking members and volunteers to help us make the natural areas of Fermilab beautiful. The meeting will be held in Wilson hall on the first floor in One West.

Deadline approaches for on-site summer housing requests
The Fermilab Housing Office is now taking requests for reservations for houses, apartments, and dormitory rooms for the SUMMER of 2014. Please submit your request to the Housing Office by Monday, March 3. Requests can be made for any period and need not commence on any particular date. To make a request, please contact the Housing Office at (630)840-3777 or housing@fnal.gov at x4361. Individual housing requests can be made by using our Online Housing Request form at http://bss.fnal.gov/accommodations/housing_request.html. Requests for multiple housing units are best handled by direct email to housing@fnal.gov.

Lunch and Learn demo: using Blue Cross Blue Shield, Prime Therapeutics online tools
Beginning Jan. 1, medical coverage for Fermilab employees transitioned to Blue Cross Blue Shield and Prime Therapeutics. Blue Cross Blue Shield and its prescription drug partner Prime Therapeutics offer online tools for Fermilab employees. On Wed., Feb. 26, at noon in One West, employees are invited attend a Lunch and Learn live demo to learn how to navigate the tools. Feel free to bring a bag lunch. Interaction Management: March 6, 13 and 20
The objective of this 3-day course is for managers and supervisors to learn the essential skills and discussion guidelines for effective coaching through practice and feedback. Zumba Toning Registration Due Feb. 27

Rembrandt Chamber Players - Gallery Chamber Series - March 9
The 2014 Gallery Chamber Series closes out the season with one of Chicago's most revered ensembles, The Rembrandt Chamber Players on Sunday, March 9 at 2:30 pm in 2nd Floor Art Gallery. "The Rembrandt Chamber Players have been a lively, gifted ensemble since their first concert 21 seasons ago. Formed by some of Chicago's leading musicians, they manage to find the sweet musical spot between the familiar and the unusual."- Chicago Classical Review. The ensemble maintains a full season of performances, and has been heard frequently on WFMT. The members perform with many other ensembles in Chicago include Lyric Opera & Music of the Baroque. Direct from Ireland - Alan Kelly Gang - Fermilab Arts Series - March 1

See these guys as soon as you get the chance." - Irish Music Magazine. The Alan Kelly Gang has been taking audiences by storm, impressing music lovers and critics alike. Fronted by Ireland's piano accordion maestro, described by New York's Irish Voice as "in league with the best piano accordionists in the world," the band includes some of Ireland & Scotland's finest musicians on flute, fiddle, vocals, & guitar. Martial Arts
Kyuki-Do is a Korean martial art similar to Taekwondo. The next Fermi Kyuki-Do Martial Arts session begins on February 17. I will teach you how to kick, punch, block, throw and fall, and basic self defense. I will also train you in the use of Bow Staff and Japanese sword. Classes are held for six weeks on Monday and Wednesdays from 5 - 6pm at the Recreation Facility in the Village. You need to register for the class through the Recreation Office. The cost is $60.00 you do not need a gym membership to join this class. I will supply a free uniform to students who have never participated in martial arts before. My class size is limited to ten students.

Scottish country dancing meets Tuesday evenings at Kuhn Village Barn
Silk and Thistle Scottish country dancing is held every Tuesday evening from 7:30 to 10 p.m. at Kuhn Village Barn. The group and is taught by Doug Jensen. Newcomers are always welcome and are paired with experienced dancers -- no need to come with a partner. Winter cancellations are announced by email the afternoon of the dance. International folk dancing meets Thursday evenings at Kuhn Village Barn
International folk dancing is held every Thursday evening, starting at 7:30 p.m. at Kuhn Village Barn. Newcomers are always welcome. There is instruction and dances for children and newer dancers early and request dancing later on. Winter cancellations are announced by email the afternoon of the dance. Society of Philosophy Club Meets Feb. 13
History shows that fundamental science is a fruit of a certain faith. How was this faith expressed through centuries and what is its condition now? What is the relation between the scientific faith and scientism? Does physics send a spiritual message to humanity? Does it shed any light on the mystery of our own existence? Learn more about it at this newly formed Fermilab club. The Society of Philosophy Club will meet in a three part series: Feb. 13, Feb. 27 and March 13 in the Req Room (WH4NW) from 12:30-1:30pm. Garden Club Spring Meeting

Performance Review: March 26 or March 27 (prerequisite: Interaction Management)
This one day course is for managers and supervisors who conduct performance reviews. You will learn the elements of an effective performance review; Learn how to prepare for an interactive performance review discussion; Practice communication skills that encourage two-way communication; Practice the steps of conducting a performance review discussion; Practice handling difficult situations. URA Visiting Scholars Program deadline - Feb. 24
Universities Research Association has announced a deadline of Feb. 24 for the submission of applications for the spring 2014 cycle of awards in the URA Visiting Scholars Program at Fermilab. Award recipients will be notified at the end of March. These awards provide financial support for faculty and students from URA's 88 member universities to work at Fermilab for periods of up to one year.
