Nominate a colleague for the Director's Award
The Education Office is now accepting nominations for this year's http://ed.fnal.gov/award/ Director's Award, sponsored by http://ed.fnal.gov/ffse Fermilab Friends for Science Education. The award goes to an employee, user, or contractor who performs exceptional volunteer service for Fermilab's K-12 education programs. Download the http://ed.fnal.gov/award/nom.doc nomination form and submit it by September 25. You may nominate more than one colleague, or even yourself!

Butts and Guts is back
Butts & Guts class will begin on Wednesdays, September 18 - November 6, 11:45am - 12:30pm in the Fitness Center Exercise Room. $58/person. Please register by end of day Friday, September 13, Wilson Hall, 15 West, Wellness Office. This strength training workout focuses on increasing flexibility and strengthening the abdominal area. Participants learn a variety of exercises designed to increase core strength that benefits daily living activities. Suitable for any level of fitness. NALWO Annual Potluck Luncheon - Sept. 16
NALWO's annual potluck luncheon will take place on Monday, September 16, at Chez Leon at the User Center between 11:30am and 1:00pm. Bring a dish to share, if you can, or just come. Meet other Lab women and share interesting food. Guests are welcome.

Artist Reception - VIEWS - September 20 - 5-7pm

Accelerate to a Healthy Lifestyle
ESH&Q's three month, 30-minute-of-exercise, 3-days-a-week program continues through October of this year. Those already participating should continue logging their workout minutes via the ESH&Q webpage. To those not yet participating, it is never too late! You can join any time. Participants can retroactively log their minutes. Participants who log a minimum of 90 minutes per week can stop by WH7E at the conclusion of each month on either a Monday or Thursday (9:30-11:30)to collect their participation award. International folk dancing meets Thursday evenings in Ramsey Auditorium
International Folk Dancing will continue to meet during September every Thursday on the stage of Ramsey Auditorium, from 8:30 to 11 p.m. There is instruction and dances for children and newer dancers early and request dancing later on. Interpersonal Communication Skills class scheduled for Dec. 4
Assess your communication strengths and weaknesses; understand the differences between passive, assertive and aggressive communication; learn how to speak with more enthusiasm, expressiveness and clarity; become a more effective listener; learn how non-verbal messages affect communication; learn how to work and communicate more effectively with different personality styles; and set specific communication goals as part of your individualized Communication Plan (CAP) and apply them daily back on the job. Annual ICW Flush
The annual ICW flushing process for the main site is slated to be performed daily the week of Sept. 9 during 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Work will start at Casey’s Pump House and continue to the far reaches of the site. FESS/Ops Mechanical Groups will flush approximately 20 miles of underground piping. All flushing-related equipment and dislodged debris will be immediately removed following the completion of an area. All mulch will be returned to its proper location. If you note water bubbling out of the ground please contact immediately John Pollock or Steven Shirley through the work central department at x3434. Life on Mars - Fermilab Lecture Series - Sept. 13
One year ago, NASA landed the one-ton rover called Curiosity on the surface of Mars as part of an ongoing series of missions to determine the viability of life. One of the most compelling discoveries so far has been the possible presence of liquid water on Mars, which leads to the next question of whether microscopic organisms could have survived, or still survive today. It also has bearing on whether there is potential for future sustainable habitation of Mars.
