The World According to Higgs - Chris Quigg - today
New developments in particle physics offers a new and radically simple conception of the
universe. Fundamental particles called quarks and leptons make up everyday matter, and the
two new laws of nature rule their interactions. Until July 4, 2012, our neat story was missing
one piece, a particle called the Higgs boson. Without it, there would be no atoms, no
chemistry, no liquids or solids, and no basis for life. Why did thousands of physicists devote
decades to the hunt, and how does the "discovery of the century"¯ change the way we see the
world? Chris Quigg addresses these issues in his talk on Friday, April 12. Tix- $7, available
at 840.ARTS, @www.fnal.gov/culture, or in WH Box Office.

The Snowmass Young survey is now online. It will take about 10-20 min to complete the questionnaire. If you know people who were at one time in HEP and are now elsewhere in their careers, we are very interested in having their input, too. The structure is such that if you are currently outside of HEP you will see a set of questions that differs slightly. The survey can be found here: http://tinyurl.com/snowmassyoung.
