Welsh country dancing for St. David's Day, Sunday, March 3
Fermilab English country dancing is going Welsh for St. David's Day (a Welsh National Holiday)! Hope you can join us for an afternoon of these fun dances to live music by Old Fezziwig's Band who accompany Fermilab's own Ddraig Goch (Red Dragon -- like the Welsh flag) dancers, a Welsh performing group. Sunday, March 3, will be participatory dancing -- everyone invited -- from 2 to 5 p.m, with more advanced dances from 1 to 2 p.m., at Kuhn Village Barn. The dances, like English, are done in sets of couples, but you needn't come with a partner. And the Welsh tunes are delightful. "Quartet playing does not get much better than this." - Chicago Tribune. Continuing our long standing relationship with the Arianna String Quartet, we are pleased to have them close out the Gallery Chamber Series for 2013. Fermilab audiences have watched the ascent of this impeccable ensemble, from their debut at the Fischoff Competition while still a quartet-in-residence at Northern Illinois University, studying with the Vermeer Quartet, through numerous awards and prestigious performances. Stops along the way include Chicago's Orchestra Hall, Tokyo's Suntory Hall, The Dame Myra Hess Series, NPR's Performance Today, tours around the world, $17 at x8640 or at https:www.fnal.gov/culture.
Fermilab Arts & Lecture Series Presents THE BELIEVERS: A SCIENCE DOCUMENTARY
"The Believers" begins in 1989, when two respected scientists announced a startling claim:
they can solve all the world's energy problems using seawater, batteries, and a mysterious glass contraption in a process they called "Cold Fusion". Within days, Stanley Pons and Martin Fleischmann were media stars. But only three months later, their careers in tatters and their reputations ruined, they fled the country and Cold Fusion became synonymous with "bad science." This film, produced by 137 Films, will be shown in Ramsey Auditorium on Friday, March 15 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $7 and available at the box office, by phone at x8640, or online at https:www.fnal.gov/culture.
DOEGrids certificates to be decommissioned-New certificate option
On March 23, the DOEGrids certificate authority will stop issuing new certificates and renewing existing certificates. Existing DOEGrids certificates will continue to work until they expire one year after they are created or renewed. Therefore, there will be no valid DOE certificates past March 2014. The new Open Science Grid certificate authority is now issuing certificates for those who need to replace their DOEGrids certificates. If you need a replacement for your DOEGrids personal, host or service certificate, see the PKI Transition website at http://security.fnal.gov/pki-transition for information and documentation.
