Accepting nominations for Director's Award
The Education Office is accepting nominations for the Director's Award through Friday, Oct. 22. The annual $1,000 award recognizes one employee, user, or contractor each year whose contributions are outstanding, even among the many supporters of Fermilab's K–12 education programs. Nomination forms may be downloaded from http://ed.fnal.gov/award/ the Director's Award website. Hardcopies may be picked up from Gayle Millman or Carol Angarola on WH 15 West. The award will be presented at the annual Volunteers reception on Tuesday, Nov. 2.
NALWO Autumn Potluck Luncheon - Oct. 15
NALWO, Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory Women’s Organization, will host their annual Autumn Potluck Luncheon from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 15, at Chez Leon in the Fermilab Users' Center. Toastmasters - Oct. 21
Bring your lunch and join us for 45 minutes in the Wilson Hall 7th Floor Racetrack Thursday, Oct. 21 starting at 12:05. In Toastmaster, you will learn self-growth, how to plan and relax, how to present an idea as to whether you have time to prepare or just 10 seconds. You will learn to listen and think effectively, how to prepare and give speeches with confidence and in a wide range of situations, best of all, you'll practice in a friendly, supportive environment, with people who are there for the same reasons.
Argentine Tango through Nov. 3
Our new series of four tango classes starts Wednesday, October 13, with instructors Daniel Noce and Ramona Nita. Classes take place each Wednesday in Ramsey Auditorium, Class dates: October 13, 20, 27 and Novermber 3. Accelerate to a Healthy Lifestyle Program
ES&H is rolling out its 2nd annual "Accelerate to a Healthy Lifestyle" program which kicks off October 1. The event will run from October 1 through December 31. The goal is to exercise three days per week for 30 minutes. Regal Movie Theater discount tickets available
The Recreation Department now has Regal Movie Theater Discount Tickets available. Regal Theaters recently purchased the AMC Cantera 30 in Warrenville. Other Regal locations include Bolingbrook Stadium 12, Lake Zurich 12 and Crystal Lake Showplace Stadium 16. We have $8 unrestricted tickets and $7 restricted use tickets available. IMAX and 3D are subject to a surcharge at the theater.
Fermilab Lecture Series Presents The Long Thaw: How Humans are Changing the Next 100,000 Years of the Earth's Climate Oct. 22
One of the ongoing points of discussion in the climate change debate is the impact of carbon emissions. In his lecture, The Long Thaw: How Humans are Changing the Next 100'00 Years of the Earth's Climate, Dr. David Archer, geophysicist at the University of Chicago and renowned author on the topic of global warming, presents some of the latest scientific findings on the complex topic of the global carbon cycle. The "lifetime" of fossil fuel CO˛ in the atmosphere is a complicated question but in general the CO˛ concentration will be higher than natural for hundreds of thousands of years. Mental Health Awareness Part II - Oct. 12

This multimedia presentation will feature the presenters' compelling personal stories of living with mental illness and achieving recovery. They will discuss their Dark Days, Acceptance, Treatment, Coping Strategies, Successes, Hopes and Dreams. John Zurn, Private School Teacher and author of three books; Mary Dalton has worked over 16 years in two Fortune 500 companies and is currently on the staff at NAMI of DuPage.
Down Syndrome Awareness Seminar - Oct. 13
Down Syndrome -- Imagine the Possibilities, Wednesday, Oct. 13, Noon-1:00 p.m., Conference Room One West. National Association for Down Syndrome (NADS). Increase your awareness and knowledge about Down syndrome, the resources that are available to individuals and families affected by it, and learn how both children and adults with DS have incredible talents and potential and are more like everyone else than different. Nancy Goodfellow (NADS) is the parent of a child with Down syndrome, past board member of NADS, and currently speaks to universities and hospitals about Down syndrome.
