Operation Terminology

Collecting antiprotons. Creating and collecting antiprotons is not just a MI, Pbar, and Recycler process. The particle beam begins in the Preaccelerator where protons are extracted from a bottle of hydrogen. This stream of particles is accelerated to 750 KeV and sent to the LINAC. The LINAC accelerates the particles to 400 MeV. From there the particles go to the Booster and receive another energy boost to 8 GeV. The protons get injected into the Main Injector and are accelerated to 120 GeV. Finally, MI sends these protons to a nickel target in the AP1 transfer line where the antiprotons are created. Once created, the Pbar stacks get transfered back through MI to the Recycler storage ring.
