An Accumulator kicker device that was originally used to both physically isolate the stored beam from beam sent to the Main Injector and to isolate the kicker’s field from the stored beam. The reason the extraction shutter gets closed now is to prevent protons from getting sprayed all over the aperture during the reverse proton tune up.
