Operation Summary for November 30, 2011 - December 2, 2011

Wednesday November 30

The day shift began with Operations monitoring Linac, Booster, and Main Injector (MI) accelerators, and with the NuMI, MiniBooNE, and Meson FTBF T-978 experiments taking beam.

During the day shift, at 9:01 AM, a Linac quadrupole power supply (L:QPSC6) tripped off for the first of two trips in 40 minutes; a Linac technician investigated. At 9:06 AM, operators reported the first of two gap fault trips in about an hour on a Booster RF station (BRF16); the station would not reset after the second trip. Operators contacted a Booster RF tech who had the station up and running by 10:22 AM, but at a reduced intensity.

During the evening shift, Operations disabled beam to T-978 at 8:15 PM.

Thursday December 1

The midnight shift began with Operations sending beam to the NuMI and MiniBooNE.

During the midnight shift, operators reported a vacuum burst in the MI-108 area at 12:13 AM; the vacuum recovered and MI resumed sending beam at 12:37 AM. Operations turned off beam to MiniBooNE at 6:38 AM in preparation for air conditioning work at the MI-12 service building. Operations completed a 750 KeV line tune at 6:59 AM. Operations turned off beam to Booster at 7 PM in preparation for an access to repair BRF13. Linac personnel reported at 7:56 AM that they were taking down LRF3 for maintenance.

During the day shift, Booster came out of access at 9:37 AM. Operations established beam to NuMI at 10:07 AM. Operations established beam to T-978 at 10:17 AM. A MI person began a MI-8 line study at 1:54 PM, but this interfered with Booster studies. He ended his study and will complete it on Friday. Operations established beam to MiniBooNE at 3:57 PM.

During the evening shift, operators began a MI tune at 4:16 PM. Operations disabled T-978 beam at 10 PM.

Friday December 2

The midnight shift began with Operations sending beam to the NuMI and MiniBooNE.

During the midnight shift, operators completed a Booster injection tune at 5:55 AM. Operations disabled MiniBooNE beam at 6:01 AM in preparation for an access to complete the air conditioning work at the MI-12 service building. Operations established beam to T-978 at 7:08 AM.

Operations Coordinator (OpsCo) Plans for Today and the Weekend

The OpsCo approved of the plans by Booster, MI, and Muon personnel to conduct studies.
