Operation Summary for March 2, 2011 - March 4, 2011

Wednesday March 2

The day shift began with Operations monitoring the Tevatron (TEV) store 8542 (125.78E30) and the Recycler stash (174.7E10), with the Antiproton Source (Pbar) stacking (10.7E10), with the Main Injector (MI), Linac, and Booster operating normally, with NuMI off due to target LCW problems, with the MiniBooNE experiment taking beam, and with the Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF) and D-Zero (D0) using the colliding beams.

During the day shift, TEV personnel began conducting end-of-store studies at 3:04 PM.

During the evening shift, Operations terminated store 8542 at 4:12 PM, put the TEV into shot setup, and established store 8543, but the store quenched at 5:41 PM due to a kicker (PAK3) pre-fire just before the experiments turned on their detectors.

Thursday March 3

The midnight shift began with the TEV recovering from a quench, with Operations monitoring the stash (174.8E10) and the stack (29.7E10), and with MiniBooNE taking beam.

During the midnight shift, Operators completed the TEV recovery, turn-on, and checkout at 2:25 AM. Operations put the TEV into shot setup and established store 8546 at 3:54 AM with an average initial luminosity (AIL) of 253.57E30.

During the day shift, Operations monitored the accelerator complex.

During the evening shift, Operations established beam to a new Meson FTBF experiment, T-1012 at 5:30 PM. Unfortunately, they were only able to take beam to 6:15 PM due to QXR issues. Operations terminated store 8546 at 7:44 PM, put the TEV into shot setup, and established store 8547 at 9:10 PM with an AIL of 345.65E30.

Friday March 4

The midnight shift began with Operations monitoring store 8547 (192.17E30) and the stash (5.9E10), with Pbar stacking (116.9E10), and with MiniBooNE taking beam.

During the midnight shift, Operations established beam to T-1012 at 7:30 AM.

The Plans for Friday and the Weekend

The plans for today and the weekend are to stack, stash, and store. A full accelerator complex shutdown for Commonwealth Edison work will begin on Monday morning, 3/7/11, and last through to Friday morning, 3/11/11. During this off time the various machines will perform upgrades and necessary repairs.
