Operation Summary for September 7, 2009 - September 9, 2009

Monday Sept 7

Startup continued. MiniBooNE took beam when it was available.

During the day shift, the Antiproton Source (Pbar) was accessed to remove the bake out equipment. The Main Injector (MI) was accessed to check on its bake out; it will continue for one more day. The Tevatron (TeV) cool down continued.

During the evening shift, the TeV cooldown continued, as did the MI bake.

Tuesday Sept 8

Startup continued. MiniBooNE took beam when it was available.

During the midnight shift, the TeV cooldown continued, as did the MI bake. A Booster RF station (BRF7) began sparking. Operators turned the station off. RF personnel brought the station back online at 7:30 AM.

During the day shift, the MI bake out concluded. A TeV sector B3 air compressor developed a leak; it was repaired. CUB personnel reported that column #1 was failing. They took the column offline and will regenerate it on Wednesday. The Neutron Therapy Facility (NTF) reported at 1:34 PM that they had treated their last patient for the day. Operations reported that the MI-60 Lower VCB would not close; EE Support will check this out on Wednesday morning.

During the evening shift, a Linac Klystron RF station (KRF3) tripped off; it reset. Operators interlocked the Switchyard and MINOS enclosures.

Wednesday Sept 9

Startup continues. MiniBooNE took beam when it was available.

During the midnight shift, there were controls problems, but operators fixed them by rebooting two nodes. At 3:15 AM, LRF1 tripped off and would not reset. The Linac on-call person came in, replaced two bad diodes, and had the station back on by the end of shift. Safety system testing of Switchyard was also completed by end of shift.

The Plans for Wednesday

Beam to Booster, NTF, and MiniBooNE. Mechanical personnel will access MI at 1 PM to pull out the bake equipment – this might take up to eight hours. Recycler personnel will access the Pelletron. Operators will interlock the Collider Detector at Fermilab.
