Accelerator Update for October 24, 2008 - October 27, 2008

Friday Oct 24
The day shift began with Operations monitoring the Tevatron (TeV) store 6512 (87.86E30) and the Recycler stash (163.7E10), with the Antiproton Source (Pbar) stacking (17.0E10), with the Linac, Booster, and the Main Injector (MI) operating normally, with the MiniBooNE, NuMI and MTest experiments taking beam, and with the Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF) and D-Zero (D0) using the colliding beams.

Operations terminated store 6512 at 3:05 PM.

Power Supply Techs completed work on the E3 and F2 supplies at 3:47 PM.

MTest turned off at 6:03 PM.

Operations put the TeV into shot setup at 6:09 PM.

Operations established store 6514 at 7:41 PM with an initial luminosity of 291.66E30.

Saturday Oct 25
The midnight shift began with Operations monitoring store 6514 (154.95E30) and the stash (140.5E10), with Pbar stacking (23.1E10), and with the MiniBooNE and NuMI experiments taking beam.

Operations established beam to MTest at 6:35 AM.

At 6:48 AM BRF7 tripped off and would not come back on; BRF19 was turned on and BRF7 remained off.

Operations terminated store 6514 at 10:37 AM.

Operations put the TeV into shot setup at 10:50 AM.

Operations established store 6515 at 12:43 PM with an initial luminosity of 285.7E30.

MTest turned off at 6:03 PM.

At 8:45 PM BRF11 tripped, and continued to trip every time Operations turned it back on. An Expert was called in to investigate.

At 9:50 PM the expert was able to get BRF7 back on, BRF11 will remain off.

Sunday Oct 26
The midnight shift began with Operations monitoring store 6515 and the stash, with Pbar stacking, and with NuMI and BNB taking beam.

Operations terminated store 6515 at 4:09 AM.

Operations put the TeV into shot setup at 4:23 AM.

Operations established store 6516 at 5:57 AM with an initial luminosity of 296.82E30.

Operations established beam to MTest at 6:26 AM.

At 8:12 AM a Main Ring power supply (I:SEXVPS) tripped off; when turned back on the supply no longer put out any current, an expert was called in to investigate. No beam to NUMI, PBar or MTest while this supply was off.

Power Supply Techs replaced I:SEXVPS and beam returned at 12:08 PM

MTest turned off at 6:10 PM.

Monday Oct 27
The midnight shift began with Operations monitoring store 6516 and the stash, with Pbar stacking, and with NuMI and BNB taking beam.

Operations terminated store 6516 at 1:59 AM.

Operations put the TeV into shot setup at 2:12 AM.

The Tevatron quenched at 3:22 AM due to a kicker (C:PAK5) firing early. Quench recovery is in progress.

Klystron KRF7 tripped off at 5:55 AM.

Experts had KRF7 back on at 7:08 AM

Operations established beam to MTest at 7:33 AM.

At 7:35 AM KRF7 is down once again, experts are investigating.

The Plans for Monday
The plan for today is to reestablish Linac beam and to stack, stash, and store.
